Will Ferrell to reunite with Elf costars for virtual table read benefiting Georgia Democratic candidates

The cast of the 2003 hit movie Elf are reuniting 17 years later for a table read of the holiday classic. 

Film stars Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Amy Sedaris and a slew of special guests are joining forces for a virtual reunion to raise money for the Democratic candidates in the Georgia Senate runoff. 

Taking place on Sunday at 4PM EST the #ElfForGeorgia reading will be livestreamed for those who provide donations to help flip the Senate in 2021.

In a press release for the event Ferrell said, ‘I’m excited to bring Buddy back to the small screen to benefit the critical Senate runoff elections in Georgia.’

‘We need new leadership in the US Senate, and I’m hoping that Buddy and the rest of the cast, can play a small role in delivering that change.’

Funds for the event will be collected through the nonprofit Act Blue and will be hosted by comedian Ashley Nicole Black. 

Deschanel tweeted on Wednesday, ‘If I were any more excited to be in the #ElfForGeorgia reunion I might explode into a burst of snowflakes,’ as she teased other amazing guests including Busy Phillips.

Film’s director Jon Favreau tweeted ‘Unlike the Mandalorian feedback I’ve been getting, my inclusion in this Elf Reunion was apparently not a mistake,’ as he teased 

Stacey Abrams also took to social media to build momentum for the noteworthy cause as Ferrell went door to door in 2018 to support her run for Governor. 

The Hangover star Ed Helms will also be making an appearance at the table reading with co-star Ken Jeong as he said he was ‘pumped’ to help his ‘home state of Georgia take back the Senate.’

Jason Esteves, Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Georgia, said ‘This holiday season, Georgia Democrats know that the best way to spread holiday cheer will be voting loud for all to hear.’

‘The joy, laughter, and good tidings from this incredible film will mobilize new volunteers and raise funds to send Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to the US Senate.’

Participants are encouraged to donate a minimum of $30 to support the two Democratic candidates in the Senate runoff on January 5.
