Woman, 18, dies and three other teenagers including driver, 19, are injured after car ploughs into tree

  • An 18-year-old passenger died in crash in Westbury, Wiltshire, yesterday evening
  • Local teenager pronounced dead scene and male driver, 19, taken to hospital 
  • Two remaining passengers taken to Southmead and Royal United Hospitals

An 18-year-old girl died after a car she was a passenger in lost control and hit a garden wall and a tree. 

The teenager was one of four people travelling inside the Ford Fiesta when it crashed in Westbury, Wiltshire, at around 11.40pm yesterday. 

The local girl was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, a 19-year-old man, is seriously injured and remains in Southmead hospital. 

The two remaining passengers sustained injuries and one, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to Southmead while the other, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to Royal United Hospitals in Bath.

The road was closed for several hours and reopened shortly before 10am but police investigation continues.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: ‘The vehicle appears to have lost control, left the road and collided with a garden wall and tree.

‘At the time of the collision the Ford contained four occupants.’ 

Inspector Andrew Lemon said: ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

‘I ask that their privacy is respected and our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.’

Emergency service vehicles remained at the scene early this morning. 

A large hole can be seen in a fence panel which appears to belong to a house which backs on to the road.
