Alan Carr reveals teetotal husband Paul Drayton was tempted to start drinking again in lockdown

Alan Carr has revealed lockdown has tempted his teetotal husband to start drinking again.

The comedian, 44, has been isolating with his partner Paul Drayton in their farm outside London.

Paul, 47, went into rehab in 2018 for alcohol problems in the same year he married Alan.

The funnyman told the Kelly Hoppen podcast: ‘It’s been tough for Paul during lockdown. He’s been saying, “Oh, shall we get a bottle?” and I say, “No, we’re not getting any rosé wine in”.

‘He’s been so good and I’m so proud of him.’

The Chatty Man host went alcohol free to support his husband but has since started drinking again.

He said: ‘I like eating and drinking, but it was ridiculous before – we were cracking open a bottle of Rosé because it was a Monday.

‘We were out of control. It was a laugh, but looking at Paul, sometimes the party has to stop.’

He added: ‘I enjoy a drink and I have it on special occasions now, it’s a real treat for me.’

‘With lockdown and the rise of podcasts it’s reawakened my chatting.

‘It’s made me want to chat more to people, and I’m quite good at it and I like chatting to people.’

It comes after the star revealed he has been keeping in touch with his pal Adele by FaceTiming her during lockdown. 

The TV personality admitted that the singer, 32, looks ‘amazing now’ and he is desperate to try out her new diet that has seen her shed seven stone.  

Speaking to host Roman Kemp on Capital Breakfast, Alan also said he has been chatting to his other celebrity pals Gok Wan, John Bishop and David Walliams 

When quizzed on whether he’d been chatting to Adele, Alan said: ‘Oh yeah, we FaceTimed her the other day! And of course she looks amazing now, doesn’t she?’ 

He added: ‘I mean, tell me that diet now Adele! I need it now! Yeah, but then I’ve been – yeah, Gok, John Bishop and David Walliams and everything. Yeah we’ve all been getting in contact, it’s been good!’

Alan and the Hello hitmaker have a longstanding friendship and she is believed to have officiated his wedding to husband Paul in 2018.

Last summer she was seen holding hands with friend Paul as they arrived at the British Summertime festival at Hyde Park.

Later that morning, Alan also chatted to radio host Chris Moyles, who assured him he was looking ‘amazing’, despite wanting the secret to Adele’s incredible figure.

However Alan joked that he had ‘gone up a cup size’ while in isolation before revealing what he has been getting up to while at home.

He said: ‘Well, what do you do? All I do is get up, walk to the bin and come back. I mean, I’m gagging to see people but it’s just… it’s very odd.’

While Chris responded: ‘But, like, you’re famous, you’re allowed to see other people, you know, under the…’

While Alan quipped: ‘I’m not Dominic Cummings!’ 

The star also revealed he has been helping his farmer husband Paul with lambing, and admitted he has been ‘massaging a lot of sceptic teats’.
