Alex Jones exuded glamour as she presented The British Academy Cymru Awards in Wales which celebrated the very best of the film, games and television industries.

The One Show host, 43, wowed in a plunging white dress as she welcomed stars to the virtual 29th ceremony which was broadcasted across social media on Sunday. 

She was joined via live stream by presenters Katherine Jenkins, 39, Love Island’s Amber Davies, 24, who starred in musical 9 to 5, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51.

Alex wore her caramel locks in sleek waves as she stood in front of giant theatrical BAFTA masks to present the 21 awards along with the outstanding contribution to film and television. 

Opening the ceremony, she said: ‘This evening we celebrate and recognise excellence across Welsh film and television talent. 

‘The 2020 awards are unlike any other in that I could literally take home all of the awards because nobody is actually here to collect them.

‘I mean it only took a pandemic for me to get 21 BAFTA Cymru Awards and an outstanding contribution – but there we go! 

‘Now usually of course we would be an auditorium in Cardiff welcoming stars onto the red carpet. Whereas this year they are all watching from home, dropping their Doritos onto the living room carpet!

‘We will be joined by the great and good of the Welsh screen industry to present the awards.’

Katherine Jenkins, 39, put on a radiant display as she presented the Original Music category which was awarded to Jonathan Hill for the BBC drama, The Long Song.     

Speaking from her home in front of a grand piano, the classical singer said: ‘Music is such an integral part of film and TV programmes and the nominees this year created such incredible music that elevated what we saw on screen. 

‘The nominees include one of Wales’ best known composers, previous BAFTA winners and outstanding new talent. Let’s listen to some of their incredible music.’

‘It has been a trying year for all actors this year as you can imagine, both on and off the screen with productions being shut down or delayed but these performances lift our spirits. 

The award was presented to Jonathan Pryce, 73, for his depiction of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis, in The Two Popes starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, 82.

Meanwhile Love Island 2017 winner Amber Davies stunned in a metallic gold off-shoulder dress to present the factual series award.      

The award for best actress was presented to The Affair actress Ruth Wilson, 38, for her role as Marisa Coulter in the BBC One drama, His Dark Materials. 

Ruth accepted the award at home in her kitchen with her parents, Nigel and Mary Wilson, with the trio cheering with a glass of red wine.  

The Awards provide an independent platform to showcase the work that truly reflects the best of Wales – making a difference, both to those producing creative work and to those watching it.

The prestigious BAFTA Cymru Award trophy has long been recognised as a symbol of creative excellence, alongside the glitz, glamour and excitement of the annual event.
