Today host Allison Langdon admits she never throws birthday parties for her children – and reveals the parenting hack that lets her get away with it

Today host Allison Langdon shares son Mack, four, and daughter Scout, two, with her husband Michael Willesee Jr.

But despite being a doting and attentive mum, Allison admitted on Thursday she’s never thrown a birthday party for her kids.

‘I haven’t yet,’ the 41-year-old said on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, during a joint interview with her co-host Karl Stefanovic.

The Nine presenter then revealed her parenting ‘hack’ that she hopes will trick her children into thinking they did have parties growing up.

She takes photos of Scout and Mack at other kids’ birthday parties and plans to show them the pictures when they’re older and say it was actually their party.

Last year, Allison admitted she was adamant she won’t be having more children.

She told Adelaide Now she already had her hands full with two young kids.

‘I am 41 and Mike is older. There is no way, we have our hands full now with a one and a three year old,’ she said.

‘I can categorically say absolutely no way Jose anymore.’

Allison added that she and Michael placed a lot of pressure on themselves as parents in the past.

‘We are incredibly hard on ourselves… I think we have set a very high standard that is perhaps a little bit difficult to meet at times.

‘You constantly query whether or not you are doing the right job and it is only through doing it wrong that you work out what to do to be perfectly honest.’

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph in September, Allison said she ‘struggled to cope with stress and fear’ after welcoming her son in 2017.

‘I was in the office because I was not okay and I struggled with the baby at home. In my mind I had a plan for how to care for the baby but sometimes there’s not a solution with a newborn,’ she said.

‘It took a mate a couple of months in to say “I don’t think you’re doing as great as you think” for me to realise. And I said “Yeah, I’m not doing great at all,”‘ she added.

Allison has been married to fellow journalist Michael for 10 years.
