Amy Shark released her new single ‘Everybody Rise’ earlier this month after taking a two-year hiatus from music.

And on Thursday, the Australian singer, 34, revealed the reason why she delayed the release of her new song, which was originally set to debut in early April.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Amy explained she didn’t feel it was the right time to share her new music amid COVID-19 and she also didn’t want to ‘suffocate what someone else is trying to say’ with the Black Lives Matter movement.

What was happening, and is happening, is so important and so much bigger, that if I’m pushing something out into the world, it’s sort of suffocating what someone else is trying to say,’ she told the publication.

‘I don’t want to clutter that. I want the world to get better and those voices need to be heard.’

Amy added she does feel for fans waiting for new music but ‘it’s always going to feel good when the time is right.’

‘The Australian singer finally released her brand new single ‘Everybody Rise’ on June 5 on Spotify and Apple Music.

The official music video for Amy’s latest song also premiered Friday morning.

Last year, Amy was nominated for four ARIA Awards including Song of the Year and Best Female Artist.

But two days before the event, Amy announced on Twitter she would be skipping the Awards ceremony in Sydney.

The 33-year-old Australian singer, who was in London, wrote: ‘Unfortunately work calls and I won’t be back in Australia for the ARIA Awards tomorrow,’ along with a crying-face emoji.

She went on to wish her fellow musicians well, writing: ‘Have a beautiful night and best of luck to everyone! It’s such a special night I’m very sad to be away.’
