Bachelor host Osher Gunsberg reveals surprise new project

He is arguably one of the busiest Australian television personalities, hosting four shows and doing voice over work on others during the year.

But after this year’s season of Bachelor In Paradise was shelved, Osher Gunsberg’s summer filming schedule opened up.

And on Tuesday, the 46-year-old star revealed he is already working on an exiting new project unlike his other reality TV programs.

Osher, who previously known by his former stage name Andrew G, was once the host of Australian Idol. He has since become the long-running host of the entire Australian Bachelor franchise.

However, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, Channel 10 announced BIP would not be going ahead with its usual summer filming schedule.

As the series is based in Fiji, the network made the decision to suspend the Bachelor spin-off for the immediate future.

With Osher’s filming commitments freed up, he has taken the opportunity to support a cause close to his heart: mental health awareness. 

‘Sneak peek from a new project I’m working on which will be out next year. I got to spend some time with my friend [Joe Williams] way out West,’ he wrote.⁠

‘You might remember that Joe took over my Instagram back in June as part of the #SharetheMicNowAustralia campaign to help amplify indigenous voices, and I’m grateful for the work he has done in the mental health space via his brilliant organisation @theenemywithin_,’ Osher explained.

Former NRL player and boxer Joe Williams is a proud Wiradjuri/Wolgalu, First Nations Aboriginal man who launched suicide prevention & mental health wellness service, The Enemy Within, in 2014. 

Osher has previously been open about his own personal struggles and lengthy battle with mental illness over the years.  

In 2019, during an appearance on The Project for World Mental Health Day, he said he wanted people to know ‘there is help out there’.

Osher revealed he had been diagnosed with social anxiety and social phobia, saying he has occasionally felt helpless in his life.

However, he credits maintaining a strict routine for keeping his mental and physical health in top condition.

Osher says good mental health doesn’t happen ‘accidentally’, and revealed he actively works at improving his mental well-being every day.

He has also said things began to turn around for him when he met his now-wife Audrey Griffin and became a stepfather to her teenage daughter Georgia.

The couple now also share one-year-old son, Wolfgang.
