‘I started dating someone a while ago, and while I’m super pedantic with OCD, and being safe, I caught it.’

The reality star explained she got the infection the one time she ‘forgot’ to wear protection.

‘It was really frightening,’ she said.  ‘It was a huge wake up call for me, because if you have Chlamydia for a long time it can render you infertile’

And while the former The Bachelor star says she didn’t display any symptoms of the infection, it was a good learning curve.

It comes after her fellow Bachelor In Paradise co-star Abbie Chatfield recently revealed her own history with STIs in her podcast.

‘When it comes to self sl*t-shaming, this is something that I still struggle with a lot. I have had STIs in the past,’ she said.

'It was really frightening' Helena added that the incident reminded her to always use protection. 'It was a huge wake up call for me,' she continued.  Pictured with he Bachelor star Matt Agnew

‘I used to have a list of people that I’d slept with. When I stopped counting it was like 50,’ boasted Abbie.

An STI is an infection passed from one person to another through sexual contact.

Examples of STIs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, and HIV.

About 16% of Australians report having a sexually transmitted infection in their lifetime, while over 23,000 Australians currently live with HIV, according to the Australian Government Department of Health.
