Blue for Biden! Sunrise switches to the Democratic colours for inauguration day as Donald Trump departs the White House for the last time

Channel Seven breakfast show Sunrise changed its colour scheme on Thursday to blue – the colour of the Democratic Party – for its special coverage of Joe Biden being sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

While reporting on inauguration day, the banner colours transformed from the usual bright orange to a patriotic shade of blue, as Donald Trump departed the White House for the final time.

Sunrise had also changed its colour scheme for the U.S. election in November.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, Sunrise had its usual orange banner throughout the broadcast. The show’s colour scheme is expected to return to normal on Friday.

Also on Thursday’s inauguration day, co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch wore a light blue shirt and navy tie with pink floral detail.

Fellow anchor Sam Armytage did not wear blue or white, but instead donned a red leopard print shirt for the occasion.

In June 2018, Sam weighed in on the media’s mockery of Trump, saying the incessant ridicule of America’s former leader had become ‘boring’.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Seven for comment on the colour change.

President Biden, 78, said ‘it feels like I’m going home’ as he received the keys to the White House on Wednesday.

In his first speech as commander-in-chief, Biden vowed to commit his ‘whole soul’ to uniting the nation and said that together the U.S. can ‘write the next great chapter in the story’.

He said this story could ‘sound a lot like’ the song American Anthem, before he recited his favorite verse from the tune.

‘We’ll write the next great chapter in the history of the United States of America, the American story,’ Biden said.
