Bonnie Anderson is slammed by viewers for ‘not wearing a mask’ while performing the national anthem at Melbourne Cup

She was unmasked as The Bushranger during The Masked Singer’s grand finale in September.

But on Tuesday, Channel 10 viewers urged Bonnie Anderson to wear a mask once again as she sung the national anthem at the Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse.

Given that Melbourne recently came out of a lengthy COVID-19 lockdown, punters were confused as to why the singer was able to sing without covering her face – while jockeys standing nearby all wore masks.

The unmasked singer! Bonnie Anderson was slammed by Channel 10 viewers for ‘not wearing a mask’ while performing the national anthem during Melbourne Cup celebrations at Flemington Racecourse on TUesday

‘Not wearing a mask?’ one viewer wrote underneath a video of Bonnie singing on Channel 10’s official Facebook page.

A second critic added: ‘Not enjoying it’ – but it’s unclear whether the user was responding to Bonnie’s performance of the network’s coverage.

However, viewers soon realised that although Bonnie appeared like she was close to a group of jockeys, aerial footage of her performance shared to Facebook revealed that she was actually distanced from everyone else.

‘I’ve been excited about this for so long,’ Bonnie began.

‘I get to sing the national anthem loud and proud before the big race, which has been a dream come true,’ she continued.

‘I feel really honoured to be doing this today, it’s going to be special. I know there’s no crowd today which is going to be so different to any other year.’
