EXCLUSIVE: ‘I didn’t realise my marriage was in trouble’: Brie Bella says she is ‘learning to balance’ being a wife and mother with her career in the latest season of Total Bellas

They recently celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary, and are expecting their second child in the coming months.

And ahead of the season five launch of Total Bellas, Brie Bella has admitted she didn’t realise ‘how in trouble’ her marriage to Daniel Bryan (real name Bryan Danielson) was during filming.

The 36-year-old retired WWE star told Daily Mail Australia she was ‘learning to balance’ being a wife with motherhood and her career.

‘It’s funny because I didn’t think this season we were going to delve into my marriage… and I realised actually how in trouble my marriage was,’ Brie said.

The fifth season follows the couple as they try to find balance in their busy lives, but Brie discovered that having children can really throw a spanner in the works.

‘I feel like for a lot of people who get into a relationship and have kids, it changes the game. Our daughter [two-year-old Birdie] and our careers became our number one priority, and we just stopped evolving together.’

Brie said that one particular conversation with Daniel made her realise that their relationship was in trouble.

‘Bryan said our marriage was so off-track and that we’re just coasting, and I thought, “Wow, this is not what it’s supposed to be like, and if we don’t work on it, it’s going to come to an end.”

‘So you see Bryan and I this season working on our marriage, and knowing that it does have to come first and you do have to put in effort, especially when a child is involved.

‘I’m definitely learning how to balance motherhood, a career and being a wife. It’s tough, but obviously I’ve got this big baby bump so things are now good. But you still worry, you know?’

Elsewhere in the interview, Brie revealed that their daughter Birdie goes between being excited to become a big sister, to still wanting all of her mother’s attention.

‘It’s funny because she gets really excited and she really wants a sister, but we got a puppy over Christmas, and when the puppy is laying on my lap, she’s really jealous.

‘So at times I can tell she’s excited, but then she still needs all of mummy’s attention.

‘With stuff like that, I tell her I need her help, that I can’t do this alone, that I need her to help me rock the baby and change the baby. It makes her feel like she already has the role of a big sister.’

Total Bellas season five premieres on E! Australia Wednesday April 15 at 7.30pm.
