Bring it On star Lindsay Sloane looks unrecognisable as she surfaces on Today Extra 20 years after starring in the classic cheerleading film

Actress Lindsay Sloane has resurfaced on Australian television, two decades since she found fame starring as Big Red in the iconic cheerleader flick Bring It On.

And fans could be forgiven for not recognising the 43-year-old during her appearance on Channel Nine’s Today Extra on Monday.

Gone were her iconic red curls and pencil-thin eyebrows that she once sported in the beloved comedy blockbuster.

My, how you’ve changed! Lindsay Sloane, 43, looked almost unrecognisable as she resurfaced on Australian television on Monday, two decades since she found fame starring as Big Red in the iconic cheerleader flick Bring It On. Pictured left in Bring It On, right on Monday

Instead, Lindsay sported a head of sleek chocolate-brown hair, and a set of fuller dark eyebrows.

In Bring It On, Lindsay played a sassy high school cheerleading caption, whose flaming red locks earned her the affectionate nickname Big Red.

At the beginning of the film, Big Red elects Torrance Shipman (Kristen Dunst) as the new captain.

However, things turn sour when Torrence learns from new cheerleader Missy Pantone (Eliza Dushku) that Big Red had copied their cheer routine from rival squad, The Clovers.

Speaking to Today Extra about the career-defining role, Lindsay revealed she actually never auditioned for Big Red, but was excited to be cast as the villain nonetheless.

‘When [the casting agents] said I was Big Red, I had to re-read the script because they weren’t scenes I had done before,’ she explained.

‘I remember the exact moment and being so excited that I got to play somebody so awful because that is the beauty of what we get to do, you get to play a character so outside of who you are,’ she enthused.

Since playing Big Red, Lindsay explained that she’s built an entire 20-year career out of playing ‘insane, kind of incredibly masochistic people’.

Elsewhere in her interview, Lindsay explained that the cast initially had no idea that Bring It On would become a hit.

‘When we were filming it, we thought it was going to go straight to video. I think that’s part of why we had such a good time when we were shooting it because we didn’t feel the pressure of, ‘Will it be loved?” she explained.

Lindsay has maintained a steady acting career since Bring It On, appearing in the Horrible Bosses movies, CBS’ The Odd Couple, and USA’s Playing House.
