‘The news she had written it sealed the deal’: British pop group Steps gush about recording one of singer Sia’s songs in interview on The Project

They have just released their sixth studio album, What the Future Holds.

And British pop group Steps has admitted that finding out that Australian hitmaker Sia had written their title track ‘sealed the deal’ for them.

Speaking via a live video link on Wednesday’s episode of The Project, bandmate Claire Richards gushed: ‘It is such a fantastic song and obviously the news that she had written it, it sealed the deal.’

Tragedy songstress Claire continued: ‘When we first heard the song we didn’t know it was written by her. We did love it on its merit.’

She added that Australian superstar Sia initially wrote the song for herself but thought it was ‘too pop’.

Claire added: ‘Thankfully she thought of us and it was her suggestion that we try to record it and we are so grateful that she did because it turned out amazing.’

‘We have Steps-ified it!’ added Lee Latchford-Evans, 45.

‘Performing live has always been our favourite part of being in Steps. We had the most fun of our career on tour,’ the band told Daily Mail Australia in September.

The group were scheduled to play at the So Pop festival in Australia, which was set to run from April to May, but was inevitably cancelled.

Their new album What the Future Holds was eventually released on 27 November.
