Brooke Shields jokes she’s ‘auditioning for the Blue Man Group’ as she posts face mask selfie during a self care day

Brooke Shields has been leaning into a lot of self care after breaking her femur in late January which has required intense physical therapy to ‘relearn how to walk.’

And the 55-year-old Blue Lagoon actress relaxed at home with a blue face mask on Wednesday, penning a joke in the process that she was ‘auditioning for the Blue Man Group.’

The New York based performance art group has been around since 1987 and has become widely recognizable by way of their matching blue face paint and muteness throughout their shows.

Newest member? Brooke Shields, 55, shares a selfie with a blue face mask as she jokes she ‘auditioning for the Blue Man Group’ making a nod to the New York based performance art group

As she posted a selfie to Instagram from the comfort of her Greenwich Village townhouse she joked, ‘Self care or auditioning for the @bluemangroup?’

She appeared make up free with her hair slicked back in a high ponytail showing off her enduring bone structure for the camera.

The post garnered engagement from friends and fans as model Helena Christensen wrote: ‘In this case I’m hoping for self care.’

Others joked that she looked more like a Smurf based on the color of the face mask, while another said maybe she should try her hand at auditioning for Avatar.

But above all her 1.2M followers sent her love and well wishes as she continues to recover from her accident after falling off a balance board at the gym and coming down hard on her right leg.

The accident prompted two surgeries and an emergency third procedure after she developed staph infection, and she told People that the incident was ‘excruciating.’

‘I just started screaming. Sounds came out that I’ve never heard before. The pain was so excruciating,’ she shared, adding that she was afraid she was ‘paralyzed.’

After remedying the situation with two metal rods in her hip, she needed a second surgery after a broken part of her right femur popped out which required five more rods and a metal plate to be implanted.

But the development of a staph infection caused a need for yet another emergency surgery and blood transfusions, enduring the whole thing without her producer husband Chris Henchy and daughters Rowan, 17, and Grier, 14, due to COVID-19 precautions.

Thankfully her infection was not life-threatening — had she developed the type of infection that was resistant to antibiotics doctors said she could have become septic and it would have been ‘a race against time.’

Her recovery process however has been a slow one and she has shared many videos to her Instagram where she is seen trying to strengthen her body again, even getting emotional after being able to walk down stairs by herself.
