Byron pub stays open especially for Matt Damon so he can be interviewed on US TV about Ben Affleck

Zooming in from the TAB! Matt Damon proves he’s an everyday Aussie bloke as he’s interviewed on American TV in front of the gambling machines at a Byron Bay pub

Matt Damon has been living Down Under with his family since January, and it seems the Hollywood actor is now a bona fide Aussie bloke.

The 50-year-old, who is in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder, chose the gaming area of a Byron Bay pub as the location for a U.S. TV interview on Tuesday.

He Zoomed into NBC’s Today Show while sitting in front of a wall of TAB machines – which wouldn’t have been familiar to American viewers but would be immediately recognisable to Aussies.

Zooming in live from the TAB! On Tuesday, a Byron Bay pub stayed open especially for Matt Damon so he could be interviewed on American TV about his friend Ben Affleck’s reunion with Jennifer Lopez

Matt revealed the pub owner had allowed him to stay past closing time so he could chat to Today hosts without other patrons milling about.

During the interview, he was also asked about his longtime friend Ben Affleck’s romantic reunion with his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

‘I’m in Australia, I’m having a beer. The people at the local club were nice enough to leave it open just so that I could do this [interview],’ he said.

He added: ‘They’ve got the best internet connection in this neighbourhood where I am.’

Matt was probed about his friend Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s reunion, after they were spotted earlier this week heading off on a private jet for a romantic getaway to Montana, fueling reconciliation rumours.

Matt said: ‘I love them both. I hope it’s true. That would be awesome.’

Co-host Savannah Guthrie said: ‘We need to talk about something,’ as Hoda Kotb added: ‘Very important topic.’

‘You’re friend Ben Affleck, and a little thing we call Bennifer,’ Savannah stated. ‘How do you like them apples?’

Matt looked uncomfortable after she said that during the virtual interview.

The movie star burst into laughter and then said: ‘There’s not enough liquor in the world for you to get me to say something about that.’

Hoda pushed on: ‘Did the news make it to Australia? How did you even know that Bennifer was a thing again, possibly.’

‘I just heard you guys waiting to come on TV. It’s the first time I heard about it,’ he said, looking away from the hosts.

‘And what did you think?’ Savannah pressed on.

‘It’s a fascinating story,’ he said as they laughed.

‘I love them both. I hope it’s true. That would be awesome,’ he added.
