Carey Mulligan sports a colourful striped jumper as she returns to her hotel with husband Marcus Mumford after hosting Saturday Night Live

She made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut this weekend. 

And Carey Mulligan appeared to be in great spirits as she rocked a colourful jumper while heading back to her hotel with husband Marcus Mumford later that night. 

The 35-year-old actress looked pretty as ever as she matched her colourful striped top with a pair of casual jeans.

She toted a camel bag over one shoulder and opted for comfort with a pair of black biker boots.  

Keeping herself safe during the pandemic, she covered her stunning features with a black mask and styled her golden tresses in loose waves.  

Singer Marcus, 34, meanwhile, kept his look casual with a navy sweatshirt and covered his head by keeping the hood up.

He sported a matching face covering and opted for a laid back look in jeans and crisp white trainers. 

The Mumford and Sons frontman made a surprise appearance during Carey’s monologue on SNL. 

The Great Gatsby star Carey joked that someone told her she was the first English person to host the show, ‘couldn’t possibly be true,’ when her husband called out from the audience.

He tried to get her attention with the acoustic guitar that he just happened to have handy.

‘Sorry, I thought you were giving me the signal,’ he said, clarifying that it was, ‘Our secret couple signal for “please play the guitar.”‘

Carey spat back: ‘I’m alarmed that you think that we have that. Come on, you’re being that guy who takes his acoustic guitar out at a party.’  

‘People love that guy!’ he replied.

Eventually he just strummed his guitar while she finished her monologue.

It comes after Netflix movie The Dig, has been nominated for five BAFTAs including Outstanding British Film, ahead of the 74th ceremony on Saturday and Sunday.

Also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Make-Up And Hair, the drama history film – which is based on a true story – has become a remarkable hit during lockdown. 

Carey starred in the film, alongside Lily James, Ralph Fiennes and Johnny Flynn, directed by Simon Stone, which follows the story of one of the most important historical finds in Britain.
