‘I’ve never been happier’: Cassandra Thorburn is ‘grateful’ for new life direction five years after split from Today show ex Karl Stefanovic

Today show host Karl Stefanovic and ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn separated after 21 years of marriage in 2016.

And almost five years on from their split, Casandra has spoken candidly about her next life chapters – personally and professionally.

Speaking to Woman’s Day on Monday, the former journalist, 49, said: ‘I’ve got a very robust sense of peace and well-being… There’s so much to look forward to, I’ve never been happier.’

Cassandra shares three children with her ex-husband: sons Jackson, 21, and River, 14, and daughter Ava Willow, 15.

‘I’m grateful for my life and the direction it has taken,’ Cassandra said.

‘I’ve made our new house I bought over a year ago into a warm family home. The next life chapters, personally and professionally, are going to set me up for the next 20 years. I’ve got a very robust sense of peace and well-being,’ she added.

Last year, Cassandra spoke candidly about her love life as a divorced woman.

She revealed she had been dating since splitting from Karl, but wasn’t interested in a ‘committed relationship’ at the time of the chat.

Cassandra said she’s also focussed on getting her children through school and her charitable work with Taldumande Youth Services.

The former Dancing With The Stars star said she’s been taking ‘time to get to know herself’ before diving into another serious relationship.

‘I’ve been in a relationship for 20 more years and the last thing I actually want to do is be in a relationship with someone else again, I actually want to get to know myself,’ she said.

In August 2018, almost two years after her divorce from Karl, Cassandra spoke to The Australian Women’s Weekly about life after their split.

‘Last year, I declared that Karl really was dead to me, a man I no longer know, but the children still have their father,’ she said.

‘The flip-side of that is I feel like we’re dead to his family and almost anyone from our old life. There has been practically no contact. I feel like we’ve been discarded and disposed of, replaced by a whole new line-up of starters.’

The pair met at a boat party in Sydney, just five months after his split from Cassandra in mid-2016.

They welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Harper May, on May 1.
