Cassandra Thorburn talks about parenting after split from Karl Stefanovic

‘They need both parents’: Cassandra Thorburn says it’s important for her children to have a relationship with her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic

Cassandra Thorburn has said it’s important for her children, Jackson, 19, Ava, 13, and River, 12, to have a relationship with her ex-husband, Karl Stefanovic.

The former journalist, 48, said on the Divorce Story podcast that it’s essential for kids to connect with both parents after they’ve separated.

‘That’s why courts and mediation is in place these days to get people to understand that children need both parents,’ she said.

Cassandra went on to say that children should always be in contact with both parents, unless there is a good reason to limit access.

She added: ‘They need to have contact with both parents unless there is of course a danger. That’s the only real reason children won’t be seeing their other parent.’

In September 2016, it emerged that Karl and Cassandra had separated after 21 years of marriage.

In August 2018, Cassandra spoke to The Australian Women’s Weekly about life after their split.

‘Last year, I declared that Karl really was dead to me, a man I no longer know, but the children still have their father,’ she said.

‘The flip-side of that is I feel like we’re dead to his family and almost anyone from our old life. There has been practically no contact. I feel like we’ve been discarded and disposed of, replaced by a whole new line-up of starters.’
