Cat Deeley discusses how husband Patrick Kielty wooed her

She’s been married to TV host Patrick Kielty since 2012 and they are parents to sons Milo, four, and James, two.

And Cat Deeley, 44, spoke to the Made By Mammas podcast about how Kielty wooed her, motherhood and and gun culture in the US.

On getting together with Patrick, 49, the TV presenter said he was living in Belfast and she was in LA when he made a major gesture.

‘He knocked my socks off a bit’: Cat Deeley discussed how husband Patrick Kielty wooed her, (pictured in 2017), being a mum of two, and gun culture in the US in a new podcast

The pair had been friends for years before their friendship turned to romance, after striking up a bond while co-hosting Fame Academy back in 2002

Cat said: ‘It was my birthday and he’d rung me, he was at a pub in Ireland and he’d rung me from the pub.

‘Bear in mind it was probably about 2 o’clock in the morning because they’d had a lock-in.’

When Cat told him she was having a birthday brunch at Beverly Hills Hotel with a few friends, she said: ‘He said, “I’ll see you there!” I was like, there’s no way!

‘He went home, set his alarm for five, got up, went to the airport, flew from Belfast to London, then jumped on the first plane from London to LA, got in a cab, told the cabbie on his way from the airport what he was doing, and the driver was literally like “do you want me to wait for you?!”‘

‘He walked in, dropped his bags at the concierge, walked in and came and sat down for lunch! It knocked my socks off a little bit!’

Talking about having children with him, she said: ‘I’d always wanted to have kids, and he had, too.

‘What we didn’t want to do is put any stress and we just didn’t want to be anxious about it. It was like, “OKlet’s just see how it goes”.

‘You will never meet a mum who isn’t trying to do her best. The more we can support each other with all that, the better.’

Cat and her family moved back to the UK back in the summer after putting her $5million (£3.8 million) mansion up for sale.

She said: ‘It was always kind of in our minds that we would, at some stage or another you know, come back.

‘The main factor was friends and family because we will never get this time back again.

‘But there was definitely a moment where Paddy and Milo were caught up in a […] they were shopping at Westfield shopping centre and they’d gone to Shake Shack to have a burger and it was just like a treat after school, and they got caught up in what they thought was a live shooter.

‘They all kind of got pushed into toilets and into the kitchen, and people were screaming, and I had to go and get them, and I didn’t realise what was going on.’

She continued: ‘It was only when I was driving up in my car that I realised the enormity of it as I saw like, six helicopters circling and news teams and SWAT squads. It was very, very scary.’

Despite the gun culture in the US, Cat said that was not the reason why they left the country.

She said: ‘It definitely wasn’t the reason, but it was one of the reasons and quite possibly a catalyst for it, you know.’

Cat said that due to the pandemic, she has had ‘loads of time to spend with the boys, and it has felt completely guilt-free!’

She said of her co-hosts, Ant and Dec: ‘It was us all together, taking a look back at all the different moments.

‘Talking about the evolution of the show, how it started. We laughed, we cried, we joked, we teased each other. It was fun, you know.’
