The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed the first case of coronavirus among one if its employees.

According to a news release, the worker was not involved in the federal agency’s response to COVID-19, the disease caused by the new virus.

He or she not been present in the CDC’s Atlanta headquarters since March 6, and was asymptomatic at that time. 

‘This individual is in good condition and is isolated to prevent spread of infection to others,’ the CDC said in a statement.

‘Our best wishes go to the employee for a rapid and full recovery.’

The CDC said that after the employee developed symptoms – such as fever and cough – he or she stayed home. 

Details about the worker’s identity including name, age and sex are being witheld to protect his or her privacy. 

‘CDC will handle each case with the utmost respect to privacy, while also informing potentially affected staff and taking swift measures to mitigate spread of the virus,’ the news release stated.

‘Please understand that out of respect for individual privacy, there are details about this case (or others moving forward) that we will not be able to share.’
