Claudia Karvan says it was ‘instant gratification’ when Bump delivered record numbers

Claudia Karvan says it was ‘instant gratification’ when her Stan Original series Bump delivered record numbers for the streaming platform and was renewed within days of its launch

Just days after its premiere on January 1, Stan Original series Bump had already received ‘unprecedented numbers’ for an Australian-made show launching on a streaming platform.

And Claudia Karvan, who starred in and produced the series, admitted on Thursday that receiving news of the program’s success was like ‘instant gratification’.

The 48-year-old actress explained on The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she didn’t expect for it to be renewed for a second season so quickly.

‘With [Bump], I thought we wouldn’t have known for a little while, usually they play hard to get,’ she said.

‘I think the numbers were so good that they were like, “Yup, okay, we want you back.” For us as creators and for the whole team, it’s like instant gratification.’

The show, which reunited the team behind iconic Aussie series Love My Way, broke viewing records for Stan after its launch on New Year’s Day.

But Claudia said the exact figures are a ‘closely guarded secret’ and said that even she doesn’t know how many people have watched Bump.

‘They guard the figures with their life,’ she said.

‘I did say to Natalie [Dubois] who is the PR, I said, “Do you know the figures?” And she said, “Yes,” and I said, “You are not leaving this room, I am actually going to talk to you,” and she said, “I’ll lose my job!”‘

While Claudia said ‘we will never know the figures’ because they are ‘highly confidential’, the Puberty Blues star revealed that they are ‘unprecedented’.

Filming for season two will begin in the coming months, and fans can expect the cast to be confirmed shortly.
