Coronavirus: Scott Morrison praises Fitzy and Wippa for self-isolating

Prime Minister Scott Morrison praises Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa for self-isolating amid coronavirus pandemic

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli were tested for COVID-19 earlier this week after having contact with coronavirus-positive Richard Wilkins.

And while the Nova FM breakfast duo were both found to have negative results, they are broadcasting their radio show from home as a precaution for the time being.

The presenters were commended on Thursday by Prime Minister Scott Morrison for setting a ‘great example’ to the general public by putting the safety of others first.

In a segment on Fitzy & Wippa, they told the Prime Minister their test results had came back negative.

‘I’m pleased to hear that,’ Morrison replied. ‘Thanks for observing the self isolation as well, it’s a great example for everyone. I know it can be inconvenient.’

He added: ‘At the end of the day, when we all do the right thing – that’s protecting the more vulnerable and that’s old people or even young people who are going through things like chemo treatment – we do the right thing.’

Fitzy and Wippa plan to return to the Nova FM studios on Thursday, March 26.

Until then, the hosts and their team will be broadcasting from five separate locations as they continue to self-quarantine.

On Wednesday, Morrison banned all non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
