Curtis Pritchard hints there WAS a romantic spark between Maura Higgins and Alexander Demetriou

Responding to speculation linking Maura Higgins to her Dancing On Ice partner Alexander Demetriou, Curtis Pritchard has hinted that something went on between the pair. 

The former Dancing With The Stars pro has revealed that Maura forbid him from coming to watch her skate with Alex and that he’s sure nothing ‘more’ happened between the pair – suggesting there was at least something going on originally.  

Curtis said: ‘I have no proof that anything more has happened between them. I don’t like to think about it.

‘I don’t want to look back over the past few months for warning signs. But it’s not nice to read about her relationship with Alex and to see pictures of them together.

‘I went to her first three shows, but after that she asked me not to come. She said she had terrible nerves and it was easier without me there.

‘I just accepted that. I wasn’t concerned about there being anything romantic between her and Alex.

‘But as the weeks went on our relationship deteriorated, and then at the beginning of March, we agreed to go our separate ways.

‘It hurt. I wasn’t ready for everyone to know we had split up – I wanted some time. It was a shock to see that she had announced it on social media hours later.’ 

The 24-year-old dancer started dating the brunette beauty after they met on Love Island in 2019.

Curtis admits to enjoying lots of good times with the reality TV star. However, he thinks their relationship fizzled out after Maura appeared on the celebrity skating series.

He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: ‘We did have lots of good times – one of the highlights was when I asked her to be my girlfriend at Port Lympne Safari Park in Kent.

‘But we were spending a lot of time apart. I was on The Greatest Dancer and she was training for Dancing On Ice from December.’

Two weeks ago, the Irish beauty, 29, admitted that the pair ‘never got to see each other’ after their time in the villa, and they had such busy schedules that they barely kept track of what the other was doing, as she spoke to the same publication.

Calling the period after the show came to an end ‘the worst time of [her] life’, Maura explained that she worked so much that she became ill from the exhaustion and stress that she was put under.

Of how this impacted her relationship, Maura said: ‘Curtis and I barely saw each other. At the beginning it was very, very hard because I was so besotted with him, and we never got to see each other. 

‘When we did, it was really nice because you got the time to miss somebody. But sometimes it would be two weeks.’

Maura went on to admit that even though they ‘were doing really well’ when she began her stint on Dancing On Ice their busy schedules ended up taking ‘a toll on the relationship.’

Maura was partnered with married professional skater Alexander Demetriou during her time on the competition show, and she hit out at claims they had been romantically involved.

Explaining that they have remained ‘close’, and will do so regardless of rumours, she said: ‘Obviously, we’re going to be close, exactly like every other partner on the show. But that’s it. We’re very close friends and we get on well.’

The Love Island starlet added that she wouldn’t ‘be afraid to hang out’ with Alexander because of the claims, as she’s keen to continue her ice-skating training. 

She also went on to talk about Caroline Flack’s tragic death, and Maura admitted she ‘was speechless’ when she heard news that the star took her own life in February.

Detailing one of the interactions that moved her the most during her time on Love Island, Maura reminisced about how Caroline took her aside to tell her how much the public loved her, and informed her that she was seen as a ‘feminist icon.’

Calling Caroline an ‘amazing’ person, Maura added that she felt ‘really sad’ after her death, but was particularly concerned about the star’s family and close friends, and how they might have been dealing with their grief.

This comes after a source told The Sun that Curtis had already moved on with a new flame – Bethany Hall – a performer from AJ’s recent dance tour.  

Yet reps for Curtis insisted there was absolutely no truth in this, and that romance is very much off the cards for the reality star for now – stressing that there has been nothing but a professional realationship between Curtis and Bethany.

Things did not end well for Curtis and Maura, who was seen cleaning her toilet with her former flame’s toothbrush as she kept herself busy during the coronavirus lockdown.

Taking part in Instagram’s ‘lockdown challenge’, Maura, 29, opted for some spring cleaning with her ex’s electrical toothbrush, stating in the video: ‘This is what happens when you f*** a girl over.’

She was then seen scrubbing her loo and cleaning the rim, with the Irish beauty heard saying: ‘Hmmm, nice toothbrush.

She also commented: ‘Scrub the toilet with that. Scrub it…’ as she happily cleaned using the dancer’s oral hygiene instrument. 

Maura then showcased her handywork by sharing a snap of her clean toilet, captioning it: ‘Too all the f***boys (oops).’ 

The Dancing On Ice encouraged her pals Molly-Mae Hague, Jay Birmingham and Perri Kiely to take part in the challenge as she tagged them in the clip.

Maura further kept herself busy during her self-isolation as she then later uploaded a video of her larking around in her lounge while holding aloft a sex toy.

The former grid girl, who rocked a white patterned onesie in the clip, was giggling away as she waved around the toy while giggling with her pals.  

She exclaimed ‘his name is Jerry’ before laughing hysterically at her cheeky antics.

Maura certainly seemed in good spirits despite the drama surrounding her love life of late.  

It comes after her Dancing on Ice skate partner Alexander Demetriou, 28, was spotted leaving her house amid bold claims his marriage ‘has collapsed’. 

In pictures obtained by The Sun, the professional skater, who is married to fellow pro Carlotta Edwards, was wearing a hooded parka jacket as he drove away from her flat in a BMW on Saturday.

The publications reports the pair had spent ‘several hours’ together before he made his exit.

It was recently revealed Alex and Carlotta’s four-year marriage had been shaken by his pairing with Maura on the ITV contest, where Alex allegedly became ‘besotted’ with the former Love Islander.

The reports come just days after it was claimed Maura split from her Love Island boyfriend Curtis Pritchard after rows over her friendship with the skater. 

Earlier this month Maura and Curtis were also hit by claims that they had secretly split three months earlier.

The former grid girl allegedly felt pressured to stay in her relationship with the professional dancer in a bid to boost their profile- claims that Curtis strongly denies. 

According to a source speaking to The Sun, Maura and Curtis’ relationship turned sour following their row at the National Television Awards in January.

The couple were reportedly told if they stayed together they could make millions.

The source said: ‘Maura felt pressured to stick with him. They had booked jobs together, parties they had to attend.

‘When they met in Love Island it was genuine. But when the showbiz treadmill started on the outside, it was a sham.’

A representative for Curtis told MailOnline that Curtis had not been unfaithful to Maura and the pair had not faked any aspect of their relationship.
