Dane Cook excitedly reveals he’s in talks to guest host Jeopardy! as he gushes ‘I would love to honor Alex Trebek in that fashion’

Dane Cook has revealed he might be taking a guest hosting role on Jeopardy! following the passing of Alex Trebeck earlier this month.

Cook, who has been a longtime fan of Trebek, and the game show, announced on Twitter on Monday that he might be in line for a guest spot as interim hosts are being selected to fill the iconic host’s shoes.

The Good Luck Chuck star wrote: ‘I got a call from my team today about guest hosting an episode of @Jeopardy and would I be interested in that if they can put something together.

‘I could barely spit out, “WHAT IS.. YES?” quick enough.’ he added, excitedly.

Cook ended his message writing, ‘I would love to honor Alex Trebek in that fashion!’

When news of Trebek’s death was first reported on November 8, Cook, 48, took to Twitter to honor the host and called the show his ‘best therapy session’.

‘Alex trebek allowed me to laugh in the face of humiliation. The lowest moment in my career was this theft I endured but Alex & @Jeopardy changed all that. My fav quiz show was also my best therapy session and because of it I made comedy out of tragedy.’

In 2010 Cook’s half brother was found guilty of embezzling millions of dollars from him while working as his business manager.

The legal case was featured as a question on Jeopardy! in 2018 and Cook made a joke of it on social media.

‘I love Jeopardy, I can just watch it and get away from it all,’ he quipped while filming himself watching the epsiode that brought up the painful memory.

Ken Jennings, the former Jeopardy! champion and most winningest contestant of all time, was announced as the first guest host to appear following Trebek’s death.

Jennings also serves as consulting producer and will tape his episodes starting on November 30.

‘Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,’ said Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards in a statement.

‘We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues.’

He added, ‘By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.’

Jennings and the other guest hosts will appear in episodes airing from January 11 onwards.

Trebek passed away at the age of 80 on November 8 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
