Danny Dyer’s grandmother dies following a battle with pneumonia

The grandmother of actor Danny Dyer and great-grandmother of Love Island’s Dani has sadly died.

Danny’s mother Christina shared the news on Twitter on Thursday, after previously revealing her mum had been battling pneumonia.  

Chris tweeted that she had been allowed to take her mother home from hospital and added her thanks to medical staff for allowing her to hug her mum amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Chris referenced a news article from Wednesday regarding Coronation Street actress Leandra Ashton who shared a video online showing her mother being arrested after they removed the actress’ grandmother from her care home. 

‘Did anyone see those two wonderful women on the telly this morning? They got arrested for taking their mum and nan home from a care home and got arrested. F**king heroes! ‘ Chris tweeted, before adding: 

‘I didn’t see my little mum for 10 days when she was in hospital and a wonderful doctor allowed me to give her a cuddle wearing full PPE.’

‘They let me take her home so she could die in her own house.’ 

‘I will be eternally grateful to that wonderful doctor giving me that last cuddle and a chat. I miss her dreadfully.’

Chris’ sad news was met with condolences from her followers, with one telling her:  ‘I remember your pain of not being able to see her, you would have taken her home if they hadn’t let you, I can’t see the problem – you would be putting yourself at risk and that’s your choice. Hope you are OK, good to see you back’

Chris responded: ‘Thanks darling. This grieving lark is a right b*****d!’

It’s not known exactly when Danny’s grandmother died, but in June, Chris had revealed that her mum was in hospital battling pneumonia and they family couldn’t visit her due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She told her followers: ‘My little mum is in hospital with pneumonia. Not Covid thank f***. I’m taking up parcels and phoning her, but not being able to visit her is f***ing devastating.’ 

Her granddaughter, former Love Island star Dani Dyer, 24, responded: ‘Hope she’s OK.’

Chris then replied, ‘So do I! Love you xxx,’ before going on to say: ‘I know she is in the best place to get better’.

The Dyers are known to be very close and spend lots of time together and Dani even appeared to break lockdown rules in March to visit her parents’ home.  

And earlier this year Dani’s grandmother Chris took her to the pub after she broke up with her on again off again boyfriend Sammy Kimmence.

Dani is almost six months pregnant with her first baby with 24-year-old stockbroker and amateur footballer boyfriend Sammy. 

Speaking in October, Dani revealed her famous dad Danny is ‘really excited’ to be a grandfather.

Speaking with guest host Christine Lampard on Lorraine, the blonde revealed the actor, 43, had been giving her parenting advice while her mother Joanne Mas has said she’s moving in after she gives birth.

The TV star explained: ‘He thinks he’s funny, he’s like ”I can’t believe I’m going to be a grandad. I’m glad I haven’t got to do the night feeds.” But he’s like, ”You just learn it on the job.”’
