Delta Goodrem reflects on biggest beauty blunder as a teenager

Delta Goodrem admits she cringes over photos of herself from the early 2000s because of one regrettable beauty trend

Delta Goodrem grew up in the spotlight, having signed her first record deal with Sony at the age of 15 before joining the cast of Neighbours two years later.

But the Born to Try singer, 35, sometimes cringes these days when she looks back on her rise to fame – and it’s all because of one rather outdated beauty trend.

Delta revealed on Channel Seven’s Sunrise on Monday that she would over-pluck her eyebrows because pencil-thin brows were fashionable at the time.

‘I look back and think, “Why were my eyebrows so skinny?” When you say makeup, I think why would I do that?’ Delta said.

Interestingly, Delta has kept the same makeup artist since she was 15, and reassured her during the interview that the early 2000s eyebrows weren’t her fault.

After signing with Sony Music in the year 2000, Delta has gone on to release five studio albums and two compilations.

She was on Sunrise to promote her latest single, Solid Gold, and her 2021 tour.

In 2002, Delta played girl next door Nina Tucker on soap opera Neighbours.

During her stint on the show, she performed her ballad Born to Try for the first time, skyrocketing it to number one on the ARIA singles charts.

In March 2003, she released her debut album, Innocent Eyes, which featured many of her own lyrics.

But disaster struck in July that year when Delta was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 18.

More than a decade later, she has launched the Delta Goodrem Foundation to raise funds for cancer research.

In July, Delta announced that she would be touring Australia and New Zealand in April and May 2021 to promote her new album, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams.

‘I’m hoping that this gives us all something to look forward to when we come together to share the magic of live music again,’ she said.

‘The safety of fans, crew and staff is always our top priority, and we are working closely with all venues and the relevant health and other authorities to adhere to COVID regulations,’ she added.

Delta’s Bridge Over Troubled Dreams tour will mark her first live shows since 2016. Tickets are on sale now.
