Dua Lipa reveals she has gone teetotal and cut down on smoking to protect her voice

Dua Lipa has revealed she has gone teetotal, cut down on cigarettes and quit dairy in a bid to protect her voice.

The One Kiss hitmaker, 24, who is vying for the UK number one spot this weekend with her sophomore album, Future Nostalgia, said she was on a health kick to preserve her soulful vocals.

Dua, who is currently on lockdown in a London Airbnb with boyfriend Anwar Hadid, 20, is known for her love of a party – famously visiting a strip club with Lil Nas and Lizzo for the Grammy Awards 2020 afterparty.

She told The Sun: ‘I don’t do dairy when I’m singing.

‘I’ve also stopped drinking and I don’t smoke, either, when I’m touring.

The New Rules songstress has been forced to postpone her Future Nostalgia European tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: ‘It’s rubbish to postpone the tour but we all have to be safe. [2021] will be our year, I thought 2020 would be.’

Dua recently spoke out on her last minute self-isolation base during the coronavirus crisis.

The singer is holed up in ‘a random Airbnb’ in London with boyfriend Anwar after returning home from her Australia tour to find her flat flooded.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, the star, who has just released her second album, said things are going well as she enjoys some rare down time with her model beau.

The busy star admitted that the crisis has made her reevaluate her lifestyle, explaining: ‘We’re all learning to take a little step back. Not everything needs to be so imminent.’

‘My job is always like, where am I going, what am I doing next? It doesn’t need to be so urgent. A lot of those meetings can just be an email.’

Maybe this is a wake up call to really start protecting our planet. I think we’ll have more empathy for people around the world who have had to deal with oppression. This doesn’t discriminate and we’re all going through it together.’

Lorraine asked about Dua’s family having to leave Kosovo during the Balkan War and how they’re a very ’stoic bunch’ and have been through a lot. Dua agreed, pointing out: ‘I think after going through two wars, they’re like, “This is a small price to pay… we can come together collectively to try and heal the world. All we have to do is try to sit on our sofas and watch TV, so I think we can do it.”‘

Amid the coronavirus crisis, Dua decided to pull the release date for her second album Future Nostalgia forward from April 3 to March 27.

She explained to GMB: ‘This is probably a weird time to put music on so I hope it takes your mind off whatever is going on in the background and gives you a moment of joy.’ #

Dua also spoke about the new album this week on fellow singer Jessie Ware’s hit podcast Table Manners, admitting she felt pressure during the writing and recording process for her second album.

‘I really just kind of made this album because everyone was like “Ohh second album, like that’s a really scary one” and there was so much pressure with it that I just wanted to basically make something that took me away from that, that took away that anxiety and something that I made just to have fun with.’

‘I was also toying with the idea of whether to put it out at this time at all. And I guess some things just happen for a reason and I think people maybe need it now more than ever.’
