Amongst the other images included a photograph of a young Prince William and Prince Harry, dressed in matching outfits, with their mother, the late Princess Diana, and a never-before seen picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge giving their children a piggyback in Norfolk.

Prince George, six, can be seen clutching onto his dad Prince William’s shoulders, while a smiling Princess Charlotte, four, donning a loose ponytail, holds her arms loosely around her mother’s neck.

Elsewhere, Carole Middleton can be seen cradling baby Kate Middleton as she supports her head while holding her in her blanket.

The royal couple’s post come as Boris Johnson is set to urge Britons to celebrate Mother’s Day remotely by using video calls – as he admits the NHS is on the brink of being ‘overwhelmed’ by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Prime Minister’s warning that ‘the numbers are very stark and they are accelerating’ came as the UK death toll soared to 233 – up 56 in a day.

On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge became the first royals to visit coronavirus frontline health workers, as they met staff at a London NHS 111 call centre – and, in light of new social distancing rules, discussed the idea of remote conferencing for future royal visits.

As they toured the call centre in Croydon, south-west London, the couple heard how the number of calls from the public had quadrupled since the crisis began.

They listened intently as they were told that the 999 service has just had the busiest three days in its history, while the 111 advice helpline was receiving ‘phenomenal’ levels of calls with some members of the public panicking over self-isolation.

The visit to the Croydon centre, which deals with south-east London, saw William and Kate – dressed in a rose pink trouser suit – adhering rigorously to the latest protocols about dealing with the disease.
