Ellie Goulding has said she feels ‘overlooked’ by the fashion industry because she has an athletic figure.
The singer, 33, took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday evening to admit that she feels her appearance has been criticised by both men and women.
The Starry Eyed hitmaker said that she feels her muscular physique ‘challenges femininity’ and the way that people are ‘supposed to look’ in her industry.

Ellie wrote: ‘Re my last post – I’ve definitely been criticised by men and women for my athleticism and appearance because it challenges femininity and how I’m ‘supposed to look’ in this industry.
‘I honestly feel I have been overlooked in the fashion world for this reason but I will keep pushing female strength as the ultimate super power. Which it is.’
On Tuesday, Ellie proclaimed her gym routine to be her ‘ultimate escape’ as she shared a snap of her washboard abs.

She is known for her love of fitness and told how working out has helped her mental health, although she has found it difficult to stay motivated during lockdown.
The hitmaker looked incredible in a photo she uploaded to Instagram where she flexed her biceps in the gym.
Alongside the post, she wrote: ‘*There aren’t many muscular women in popular culture*. Nothing I do in the gym is for vanity.

‘To me it isn’t intimating or scary to be strong (in fact anyone who has met me knows I am the most pathetically shy and self deprecating person) When posting gym photos, I only ever wanted to show that with all the things I’ve overcome, keeping fit and strong has been my ultimate escape.
‘I have no extraordinary athletic ability and I was crap at sports as a kid (I was so severely asthmatic I could barely even laugh without a coughing fit) but I’ve pushed myself and used all the willpower I can muster to keep at it.
‘As hard as it is to stay motivated, especially right now, I still recommend it passionately for any mental health issues you are facing… even a small walk or jog. Ps – I didn’t do any exercise today because I didn’t want to!

Ellie donned a black and white patterned crop top in the snap that displayed her sensational physique.
She also wore mauve animal print shorts along with black trainers while she styled her blonde locks into an updo.
It comes after Ellie recently enjoyed a sun-soaked getaway with her husband Caspar Jopling, 28, amidst a reported feud that is rumbling on between Ellie and her mother.
Late last month Tracey Goulding, 56, spoke of her ‘deep hurt’ after Ellie described her as ‘quite threatening’ and said their relationship ‘isn’t fixable’ in an interview.
Tracey told the Mail in an exclusive chat she had no idea why her daughter, who released a new album, Brightest Blue, in July, would make such claims.
Speaking at her semi-detached home in Birmingham, she said: ‘It’s very, very upsetting. I don’t know what to say. I am not that type of person.’
Ellie had claimed in an interview with The Independent that she wanted to talk about her difficult relationship with her mother but, ‘she became quite threatening when I did talk about her in the press. Discussing her was a disaster.’

Tracey, who works for the NHS, said: ‘I really, really don’t know what she is referring to and where the word threatening has come from.
‘I don’t know what she is talking about. I don’t think Ellie has ever spoken about me in the press so I don’t know what I could become threatening about.
‘I think it must have been twisted or taken out of context because I have not got a threatening bone in my body.’
