Emma Thompson has defied her own harsh self-criticism as she unleashed her alter ego in a series of showstopper couture gowns for a playful British Vogue photoshoot.

The celebrated actress, 62, who admitted she is ‘uncomfortable’ trying to look ‘fashionable,’ showed her age-defying beauty as she reflected on the watershed moment she turned 60.

She also discussed riding out ‘s**tstorms’ in her prevailing 26 year relationship with actor Greg Wise, which she feels has made her a better person.

In one look, Emma rocked an arresting red dress which comprised of layers of cascading tulle, fuchsia bows and statement red flowers.

Her blonde locks were tucked beneath a sleek raven wig as she draped over a concrete slab in the centre of London.

Emma’s delicate hands were decorated with an eclectic selection of jewellery as Vogue revealed their telling conversation prior to the shoot.

‘I am uncomfortable trying to look slim and fashionable because I am not, and now it’s allowed that I am not,’ she told the publication, confirming that she didn’t want to be taken too seriously at the shoot with Juergen Teller. ‘I fancy a bit of fun.’

Nevertheless, Emma’s cream dress stole the show as it featured a sculpted plunging neckline and billowing puff collar which encircled her head.

She sported gold-edged boots and contemporary gold jewellery, firmly remaining the centre of attention.

Emma, who plays Baroness von Hellman in Disney’s forthcoming Cruella film, revealed that since turning 60, she lives everyday like it’s her last but can’t help sweating the small stuff.

She continued: ‘I’m not really scared anymore. Well, I get scared. Though mostly it’s the small stuff. Not, for example, death.

‘I feel like I could die at any time,’ she said with ease. ‘Then Covid turned up. I’ve had pneumonia, so I thought I’d better be careful, but no one’s through the woods yet. Anyone could die of this thing.’

She also humbly declared that the last six years with her husband, 54, have been the ‘best’.

She said to the publication: ‘My mum said to me once, “The first 20 years are the hardest.”

‘I know that sounds funny, but Greg and I have been together for 26 years now and I would say the last six years have definitely been the best. I feel very, very fortunate.

‘But, again there’ve been s**tstorms, so you get through them and do the work. Annoyingly, it mostly turns out to be work you have to do on yourself.’
