Emma Watkins says she struggled to perform with The Wiggles while suffering from endometriosis

The Wiggles’ Emma Watkins has been open about her struggles with endometriosis.

And in a new interview, the 31-year-old has revealed how tough it was at times having to perform up to four shows a day with the children’s group.

‘I feel fortunate that I am young, I haven’t had that many issues except when I had endometriosis, and I had quite a lot of fatigue with iron loss and all the rest of it,’ she told the Daily Telegraph.

‘It sounds like a lot – once you’re onstage and in the first kind of five minutes, the energy from the audience is so joyous that you kind of forget about yourself.’

In April 2020, Emma reflected on her endo journey and recovery.

‘I realised that it is two years since my endometriosis surgery and I would like to thank all the women who have connected and shared their stories and advice with me over these last two years,’ she wrote at the time.

‘A special thank you to the health professionals who guided me through, Dr Jason Abbott, Leah Hechtman, Mark and Julie Uren, Ruth Schubert and Anthea Doropoulos.

‘My health has improved but it is constant management. I’m so happy to be back dancing and performing albeit connecting through the digital world now.’

Emma first revealed she was suffering from endometriosis during an appearance on the Today show in April 2018 after undergoing surgery.

At the time, she described her diagnosis as ‘a really big shock’.

‘Over the last couple of years, I’d noticed a lot of pain. I think even as a girl, you’re just used to dealing with what you have to deal with,’ she said.

‘As it started to progress and get a little bit worse, I thought I should get it checked out.’

She has since recovered and is now back to performing at full health.
