Fake Celeb Spellcheck accounts pop up on Instagram as imposters try to copy the original page after it ‘retired’

A handful of fake Celeb Spellcheck accounts have popped up on Instagram after the original account ‘retired’.

One of the imposter accounts already has 36,000 followers, while another has a tidy 17,000.

The accounts have virtually copied everything from the original page, from the Judge Judy display picture to the same style of posts that call out influencers for making mistakes.

The imposter accounts arrived shortly after Celeb Spellcheck closed their account after A Current Affair threatened to expose the mystery poster behind the popular page.

Announcing the shock news via Instagram Stories last week, the anonymous user behind the account explained that the page had become ‘too big and powerful’ to enjoy.

‘After weighing up many options, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Celeb Spellcheck,’ the user wrote.

‘This account has become too big, too powerful and too time consuming for me to enjoy running it anymore.’

The page, which shares user-submitted gossip and mocks D-list celebrities for their typographical errors, went on say the farewell was by choice.

‘There is no scandalous reason behind this decision – I’m not being threatened, sued or controlled in any way,’ they wrote.

They continued: ‘I will be permanently deleting the account tomorrow.’

Celeb Spellcheck went on to thank its 165,000 followers, writing: ‘Thank you so much to everyone who has followed and supported the page.’

Earlier this week, A Current Affair aired an expose on the page which threatened to reveal the user’s identity to the world.

However, nothing new was revealed, leaving some viewers frustrated with the show’s misleading promos.
