Family Fortunes viewers stunned after contestant proposes to his girlfriend mid-round

Family Fortunes viewers were left speechless last night after a romantic contestant proposed to his girlfriend mid-show.

Liam Wain of the Russell Family, from Oxford, interrupted host Gino D’Acampo to reveal he had a ‘question of his own’ before leading girlfriend Nadine to the centre of the stage.

He then delivered an emotional speech, telling Nadine she is the ‘most amazing girl I have ever met in my entire life’ before getting down on one knee.

Viewers at home flocked to Twitter to comment on the sweet moment, with one asking: ‘Why am I crying at a proposal on Family Fortunes?’

Another tweeted: ‘Absolute proposal goals on Family Fortunes tonight.’

And one joked: ‘Marriage proposal on Family Fortunes! Surely Gino should have stopped the answer and asked the people they surveyed for the answer!’

The sweet moment happened after the Russell Family won the opportunity to steal the round from the Davies Family, of The Wirral.

After asking Nadine what a dog can get away with that a person can’t, Gino – who hosts the newly revamped show – turned to Liam, who replied: ‘I appreciate the question Gino, but I’ve got a question to ask myself.’

He then took a confused Nadine by the hand and led her centre-stage, where he bared his soul, telling her: ‘I love you so much.

‘You’ve been in my life for four years now and truly I have never loved someone more in my whole life.

‘The minute I set my eyes on you, I thought you were the most amazing girl I have ever met in my entire life.’

Dropping to one knee and producing a ring from his pocket, Liam added: ‘I would love it if you could… Is that a yes?’

Crying, Nadine nodded as the studio erupted into applause and a watery-eyed Gino congratulated the happy couple.

The scene left viewers emotional, with one tweeting: ‘Family Fortunes just tipped me over the edge and now I’m crying uncontrollably.’

‘Crying at Family Fortunes,’ wrote another. ‘Not a fan of public proposals but that was super cute.’

Though some admitted they found it ‘cringeworthy’, with one viewer commenting: ‘Oh cringe on live TV when you’re talking about what a dog would get away with…’.

Another asked: ‘Is that as good as it gets? A marriage proposal on the set of Family Fortunes?’

Liam himself took to Twitter last night, tweeting host Gino: ‘Hey @Ginofantastico you’re invited to the wedding pal,’ followed by a heart emoji.

Last week Family Fortunes contestant Kash Popat, 23, of Harrow, left her family in stitches and host Gino speechless when she gave an unexpected and x-rated answer.

Asked: ‘Name something you put in your mouth but don’t swallow,’ her reply was bleeped by production – and the audience’s stunned reaction led viewers to believe she had offered a crude word. Her brother Rohan later confirmed she said d***.

Family Fortunes airs on ITV on Sundays at 8pm.
