Would you want this as the new national anthem? Fans of The Veronicas start a bizarre petition to make their hit Untouched replace Advance Australia Fair – but it gains just 10 signatures

It seems that The Veronicas well and truly have some devoted fans.

A new petition has emerged that calls for their 2007 hit Untouched to become the new national anthem.

The petition is on Change.org and argues their hit is a good replacement for Advance Australia Fair, which they spelt incorrectly, but it’s only gained 10 signatures.

The creator, who referred to the existing anthem as ‘Advanced Australia Fair,’ argues that other countries would be ‘jealous’ of our anthem if it changed to Untouched and said Australia has a ‘rave-like culture.’

‘This anthem has very little rhythm and is only to be sung respectfully,’ they said about Advance Australia Fair.

‘This form of singing is incredibly outdated and doesn’t represent Australia’s rave-like culture.’

‘I have proposed a much greater song that represents Australia in a better way, that everyone likes and is inclusive to all Australians, as well as making other countries jealous of our incredible national anthem.’

They added: ‘Not only does it represent Australia’s hard partying style, it was written by two people who were born in Australia, automatically making it a much more fitting anthem.’

Speaking about the petition on Hit Queensland‘s Cliffo and Gabi, The Veronicas’ Jess and Lisa Origliasso, 36, said they had no idea it even existed.

They laughed at first when hearing about the petition.

‘No, really?’ they said.

‘We didn’t even hear about it so you have to get the word out there babe,’ Lisa quipped to one of the hosts.

Jess added: ‘We can give it a signal boost for sure, someone needs to send it to us!’
