Fire kills ten in Covid-19 ward: Deadly hospital blaze breaks out at intensive care unit in Romania

At least ten people have died and seven are critically injured after a fire broke out at a hospital treating Covid-19 patients in Romania.
The blaze burned through two rooms housing 16 intensive care patients in Piatra Neamt before it was extinguished, an emergency services spokeswoman said today.
Irina Popa, for the Emergency Situations Inspectorate, added it is believed the people killed ‘were infected with Covid-19’.

She said one patient is in serious condition from the fire and a staff member also received serious injuries.
Romanian health minister Nelu Tataru said the fire was ‘most likely triggered by a short circuit’ inside the hospital.
Piatra Neamt is around 219 miles north of Romania’s capital, Bucharest.
