Former Primark employee reveals the best time to buy new items

How to hack your Primark shop! Former employee shares the best time of day to find new items and reveals you can even call ahead to reserve stock

  • Gemma from Birmingham worked at the budget clothes shop for seven years
  • She said the best time to go shopping is early in the morning or late at night
  • Added most stock is put out first thing so it’s the best time to grab new items
  • Revealed shoppers can call ahead and reserve items until the end of the day

It’s the bargain hunters paradise and one of the high-street’s best known places to nab a great deal, but now an insider has revealed how to make sure you get the best stuff in Primark’s notoriously packed stores.

Speaking to the Sun, former Primark employee Gemma, now a pharmacy assistant, said the best time to shop for stock is when stores first open in the morning.

Gemma, 30, from Birmingham, who worked at the budget clothes shop for seven years from the age of 18 to 25, also revealed customers should always take the hanger home, because it makes life ‘easier’ for the staff and speeds up the checkout process.

She also shared her tips for finding your size, revealing you should check the label rather than the hanger, and advised calling ahead to see if an item you want is in stock, rather than asking staff to find it for you when you get there.

‘I would say the best time to shop is when they first open or an hour before they close. It really depends on what stock comes in as every day is different,’ she said.

She added that she ‘understands the frustration’ of having to go into stores which can sometime be a ‘nightmare’.

However, she insists Primark will not start selling online any time soon, and said it’s the right decision because it ‘keeps the high street going and people in jobs.’

Hunting for the correct size is always a real bugbear for shoppers, but Gemma had some tips on how to make the process easier.

She said that there’s little point in asking for your size if you can’t find it, because most of the time what’s on the rack is all that’s left.

She added: ‘The stock goes out straight away and going to the stockroom takes a good 15 minutes to look and check, and by the time you go back, the customer would be upset anyway before you tell them the item isn’t there.’

But, she shared a handy tip, saying that you can call the store ahead of time to ask if they have your size in stock, and if they do it will be kept behind the till until the end of the day.

The ex-employee also said workers only received a 10 per cent discount for two weeks during December, so they can get some bargains in the run up to Christmas.

Gemma added that shoppers should check the label on the clothing, not on the hanger, because items often find their way on to the wrong hanger.

But when shopping people should take the hanger home because it’s ‘so much easier’ for the staff, and speeds up the packing process at the checkout.

The former employee also revealed she often faced rude customers.

‘From my experience, the customers didn’t have respect for the staff. I have had items thrown at me whilst on a till when I was serving and verbal abuse,’ she said.
