Former Today show reporter Tim Gilbert RETURNS to Nine

Guess who’s back! Former Today show reporter Tim Gilbert RETURNS to Nine – almost two years after he was sacked from the breakfast show

Tim Gilbert is returning to Nine to host the network’s new radio program on 2GB, 3AW and 4BC, almost two years after being sacked from the Today show.

The former sports presenter will give listeners tips for the weekend every Friday from 7pm to 8pm.

Nine Radio’s head of content, Greg Byrnes, told Mediaweek: ‘Whether it’s fishing, travel, spending time in the kitchen or fixing the back deck during lockdown, Tim will have something for everyone each Friday night.’

‘Tim knows talk, our audience knows Tim and this new show is the perfect launchpad for his long-awaited return to radio,’ Greg said.

Tim also said he’s ‘very excited to be returning to radio, three decades after his first gig’.

‘In a very heavy news cycle, we’ll be taking you down the bright side of the road for an hour each Friday night and exploring everything that’s good in the world,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Tim was dropped from Channel Nine in January 2019, during the Today show ‘bloodbath’.

After five years as sports reporter, he was given his marching orders alongside Karl Stefanovic, Richard Wilkins and Sylvia Jeffreys.

‘It was time for me to make a change,’ he told News.com.au after being axed.

Tim was replaced by Melbourne journalist Tony Jones and filmed his last episode on Friday, January 11.

He then launched his sports program, Racing Dreams, on Sky News – a 12-part, one-hour weekly program about thoroughbred horse ownership in the racing industry.

Meanwhile, Karl returned to hosting Nine’s Today show this year after viewers didn’t warm to his replacements Deb Knight and Georgie Gardner.

Sylvia Jefferys was also rehired as co-host of Today Extra alongside David Campbell while Richard is entertainment editor for the Nine Network.
