Fox sets new unscripted series Celebrity Watch Party debuting next week

With the COVID-19 outbreak causing a production shutdown in film and television, Fox has greenlit a new show called Celebrity Watch Party that is filmed remotely.

The brand new unscripted series will debut Thursday, May 7 at 9 PM ET, according to a Fox press release.

The first episode will feature stars such as Rob Lowe, Meghan Trainor, Joe Buck, Raven-Symoné, Master P and Romeo, JoJo Siwa, Steve Wozniak, Curtis Stone, and Robert and Kym Herjavec.

The one-hour reality series will offer fans a peek into the real-life homes of their favorite celebrities, ‘as they film themselves reacting, along with their families, to the most hilarious and exciting shows and talked-about news events on television each week.’

The show is described as, ‘an insightful, funny and sometimes emotional critique of America’s most popular and topical TV shows and news stories.’

Celebrity Watch Party is based on the U.K. series from Studio Lambert entitled Googlebox, which has been the highest-rated original show in the U.K. since debuting on Channel 4 in 2014.

‘Celebrity Watch Party is a fantastically innovative, clever and culturally relevant format that brings families together to celebrate all the best films, entertainment shows and news on television on any given week,’ said Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials, Fox Entertainment. 

‘We’ve got some incredible personalities inviting us into their homes and onto their couches for an hour of pure fun with them, their families and the viewers at home,’ he added.

The network has issued a 10-episode order, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with casting for additional episodes to be announced at a later date.

‘It’s a show which asserts the indispensable role of TV in the fabric of people’s lives and the way it’s at the heart of the nation’s weekly conversation, especially in these unusual times,’ he added.

Lambert will serve as an executive producer with Becca Walker, Jack Burgess, Mike Cotton, Tania Alexander and Tim Harcourt.

The show’s green light comes as more studios and networks are trying to find ways to create content while adhering to social distancing guidelines due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Saturday Night Live has produced two of their At Home editions with cast members filming their sketches from home, while all of the late-night hosts have been doing at-home editions.

NBC aired a brand new Parks and Recreation special on Thursday, featuring all of the main cast members filming their scenes from home for the new episode.
