Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger get into character as Grease lovebirds Danny and Sandy as they take the ‘Crooner Sessions’ to the next level

Gary Barlow took his hugely popular ‘crooner sessions’ to the next level on Monday evening while performing with his latest celebrity guest, Nicole Scherzinger.

The Take That star is doing his best to keep bored Brits entertained by livestreaming a piano-led live performance from home with a different guest vocalist each night.

So far Barlow, 49, has dusted off a string of much loved hits with harmonic help from stars including Chris Martin, Peter Andre, Anastacia, Paloma Faith and Jessie J.

Here we go: Gary Barlow took his hugely popular ‘crooner sessions’ to the next level on Monday evening while performing with his latest celebrity guest, Nicole Scherzinger

And he was joined by Pussycat Doll Nicole for his latest, an impromptu cover of the legendary You’re the One That I Want, originally performed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in iconic 1978 musical Grease.

But after kicking things off, the livestream took an unexpected turn as they transformed into the film’s lovestruck teen protagonists, Danny and Sandy.

Getting into character, Gary wore Danny’s famous white T-shirt and shades, while Nicole wore the blonde wig, vampish red lipstick and off-the-shoulder top modelled by Sandy at the end of the famous film

Tweeting shortly afterwards, Gary thanked the singer for being a good sport and agreeing to dress up while taking part in his latest livestream.

He posted: ‘Omg I love this – thank you so much NicoleScherzy for going over and above the call of duty – great fun making this clip. Nicole thank you for being a fantastic sport. Miss ya.’

Nicole promptly shared the performance with her 4.5 million Instagram followers, adding:  ‘Ya’ll ain’t ready for Hawaiian Olivia Newton John. Thanks Gaza @officialgarybarlow for having me on #TheCroonerSessions it was so much fun LITERALLY getting in to character with you.

‘I hope this will get ya’lls week off to a good start by putting a smile on your faces.’

The livestream comes after Gary reunited with former Take That bandmate Robbie Williams for a duet amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

The singers performed a rendition of their 2010 single Shame, with Gary telling fans: ‘Sorry to have made you wait so long for this one. Yes the dynamic duo return.

‘Thank you @robbiewilliams for taking the time to be part of this. Big hugs (virtually of course) #thecroonersessions.’

As well as celebrity friends, Gary also highlighted members of the public in his fan sessions, including National Health Service workers.

He has also performed with 12-year-old Alex Hemingway, the nephew of Drum Major Oxley, who died in a motorbike crash at a Cypriot Army base in 2016.
