Speaking about how they first met, Rob said: ‘I first got into musical theatre at school in the late 70s, early 80s which is where I met Ruth Jones.

‘That’s Ruth there on the left, we also did Guys & Dolls.’

Rob, who was on the show to talk about his new tour, A Night of Songs and Laughter, spoke about if Gavin and Stacey would return following the Christmas special in 2019.

‘I don’t know what’s going to happen. Whatever I say about this, I get into trouble. If I say I don’t want to do anymore, I look like a killjoy.

‘If I say “I think they should do some more” it’s as if I’m teasing there being another. I honestly don’t know, I’d love it if they did.’

Last week James Corden revealed there are currently no plans for another Gavin and Stacey special but he thinks it would be a ‘shame’ to never do another show again.

The actor, 42, co-wrote the hugely popular series with Ruth and the pair have yet to sit down and hash out a potential future special.

Appearing on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, James acknowledged the end of the Christmas Special in 2019, where Nessa proposes to Smithy (James), was ‘so open-ended’.

Asked if fans can expect another episode, he said: ‘As it stands right now, there aren’t any plans to do one but that’s not to say there isn’t the want or the inclination to do one.

‘When we wrote that last special, we never really thought whether we’d make another one after it but then that special, it’s so open-ended.’

However, James added that he and Ruth, both feel the Christmas special felt like the end of a chapter, rather than the whole story.

He said: ‘I think it would be a shame to leave it there. I think, that’s certainly my feeling and I think Ruth feels the same.’

Lorraine is on weekdays from 9am on ITV and available on catch up on the ITV Hub.
