GBBO fans call out Paul Hollywood after he tells co-judge Prue Leith to be ‘open-minded’ over her hatred of baked beans despite the baker refusing to eat gherkins last week

The Great British Bake Off fans called out Paul Hollywood on Tuesday’s episode after he told co-judge Prue Leith to be ‘open-minded’ over her hatred of baked beans.

Just last week, Paul, 54, demanded contestants Mark and Lottie avoid using gherkins in their steamed burger buns as he doesn’t like them.

And on Tuesday’s episode, Prue, 80, was left concerned over Lottie’s quiches using baked beans as an ingredient.

To which Paul told her to be ‘open-minded’ over the controversial breakfast staple.

Yet fans were quick to call out the judge as they pointed out just last week he failed to follow his own guidance as he demanded contestants cook without gherkins.

One person said: ‘A Bake Off observation: Paul tells Pru to be ”open-minded” about baked beans in a quiche after forcing people to remove gherkins from their recipes especially for him last week… the HYPOCRISY #GBBO.’

A different fan put: ”We’ve got to be open-minded Prue” from the man who last week wouldn’t touch anything with gherkin in it #gbbo.’

While a different account added: ‘So Paul says that they have to be open minded when Prue said she hates baked beans…. yet just last week when he had bakers creating special ”gherkin-free” goodies for him!  #GBBO #BakeOff.’

Tuesday’s episode followed an 80s theme which saw the contestants tasked with quiches, custard and jam finger doughnuts and an ice cream cake showstopper.

Poking fun at Paul, host Noel Fielding quipped: ‘Wow! What is he, five?! He’s supposed to be a judge, a man of the world with an exquisite taste palate!’

Yet this wasn’t the only drama as the show was hit with ’15 Ofcom complaints’ after some viewers found the week’s theme ‘racist’.

MailOnline contacted Ofcom and Channel 4 for a comment at the time.

The show was also hit by 18 Ofcom complaints earlier in October when judge Paul Hollywood said rainbow-coloured bagels represented the NHS and failed to mention the significance of the rainbow flag in the LGBTQ+ community.
