Girl, 16, ‘is raped’ in Liverpool city centre hotel as police arrest six men aged between 18 and 20

  • Teenager, from Merseyside, allegedly raped in an apartment in the Uno building 
  • Two men, 20, arrested on suspicion of rape after alleged attack at 4.30am today
  • Six suspects were taken to police stations across Merseyside to be interviewed  

Six men have been arrested after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a city centre hotel early this morning.

Police rushed to an apartment inside the Uno building on Temple Court, Liverpool at around 4.30am today after the alleged attack took place.

The men, aged between 18 and 20, were taken to police stations across Merseyside to be interviewed by detectives.

Two men, both 20, were arrested on suspicion of rape and four others were arrested on suspicion of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Witnesses reported seeing a number of young men being escorted out of the hotel and put into separate police vans this morning.

The teenager, from Merseyside, is receiving specialist support and forensic examinations were today ongoing at the scene, Merseyside Police said. 

In a statement, a spokesperson added: ‘An investigation has been launched and two 20-year-old men, one from Congleton in Cheshire and one from Stoke-on-Trent, have been arrested on suspicion of rape.

‘Four other males (three aged 18 years and one aged 19), all from Stoke-on-Trent, have been arrested on suspicion of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

‘They have all been taken to police stations across Merseyside where they will be interviewed by detectives.

‘The victim and her family are receiving specialist support and forensic examinations are ongoing at the scene.’
