Guy Sebastian feels lucky to have escaped Sydney with his family for Adelaide in time for Christmas

Christmas has come early for Guy Sebastian.

The singer was lucky enough to flee Sydney and make it to Adelaide to spend the festive season with his family, just hours before the border was shut to residents from Greater Sydney.

Avoiding 14-day hotel quarantine by just hours, Guy told Adelaide Now he was grateful to have made it safely to South Australia before the new rules were enforced.

In the nick of time! Lucky Guy Sebastian escaped Sydney with his family to Adelaide just HOURS before border was closed due to covid outbreak

Guy, who grew up in Adelaide, has an extended network of family in the state, and left Sydney with his family on a 2.30pm flight on Sunday.

‘We found out as we were taking off that was the case, so we just felt pretty lucky,’ Guy said of hearing about the border rules changing on Sunday.

On Sunday, South Australia Premier Stephen Marshall announced border restrictions for visitors from New South Wales would come into effect at midnight.

Anyone from Sydney’s Northern Beaches can no longer enter SA, and those from the Greater Sydney area must isolate for 14 days and undergo three COVID tests.

Guy and Jules both grew up in Adelaide and met at the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church in their youth.

While in Adelaide, Guy showed his two children where he grew up in Golden Grove – which is worlds away from their current home in Sydney.

The Sebastians finally moved into their ultra-modern Maroubra home in June 2019, after a knockdown-and-rebuild renovation that lasted more than two years.

The Battle Scars hitmaker, 39, purchased the $3.1million house back in 2013, and then spent two-and-a-half years renovating it.

Guy reflected on his successful career in a Nine special earlier this year, saying: ‘I was never that kid that grew up dreaming to be famous. It didn’t seem like a viable option — I grew up in suburban Adelaide!’

‘I was an immigrant, and a weird-looking chubby kid with an afro, and it’s not something I ever thought would be possible,’ he laughed.

Guy and Jules have been together for 17 years, and married in Manly, Sydney, in 2008.

After winning Australian Idol in 2003, Guy has been busy with recording albums, touring, performing and now offering his wisdom as a coach on The Voice.
