Home and Away star Lincoln Lewis reveals how a phone call to his childhood friend saved his life when he was in the depths of depression

Former Home and Away star Lincoln Lewis pulled himself out of the depths of depression by overhauling his diet and exercise regimen last year.

And the 32-year-old actor has bravely spoken abut the darkest moments of his mental health battle, admitting that it was a phone call to his childhood friend that saved his life.

The House Husbands star told 9Honey on Tuesday that he reached a ‘low point’ late last year, just a few months after he was unwittingly involved in a catfishing scam that led to a woman’s suicide.

‘I woke up and was just done’: Home and Away star Lincoln Lewis has revealed how a phone call to his childhood friend saved his life when he was in the depths of depression

Lincoln spiralled into bad habits after learning that Melbourne woman Lydia Abdelmalek had stalked seven people for four years using his photos in fake profiles.

‘I was not eating right, physically my motivation was down, and work wasn’t going well,’ he told the publication.

As dark thoughts overwhelmed him, Lincoln reached out to his childhood friend.

‘I said to [my friend], I don’t really want to speak hypotheticals or whatever, but I said there was just one day where I woke up and was just done,’ he confessed.

‘I said to him, “Mate, I don’t care what we have to talk about. Just please talk to me.” And he just started talking.’

Listening to his friend reminded him of the importance of close, genuine friendships.

Not long after the phone call, Lincoln was asked by Australian Men’s Health to take part in a fitness transformation, which ended up being a front-pay story.

It was this offer that inspired Lincoln to take control of his body and mind, and to pull himself out of his depression.

With the help of celebrity personal trainer Jono Castano, he dropped from 88kg to 75.5kg in 12 weeks, and gained muscle in the progress.
