Huge raccoon plunges off 20ft-high ledge of a Manhattan building as rescuers catch it in a tarpaulin (but where did run off too?)

  • The animal scaled the building around 100 Hudson Street in Tribeca, New York
  • Footage shows the raccoon falling from 20-foot ledge on to a tarp held up below
  • Group of rescuers had gathered to try and get the creature down on December 7

This is the moment a raccoon falls from a high ledge in Manhattan as a group of rescuers hold a tarp to catch it below.

The animal scaled a building around 100 Hudson Street in Tribeca, New York, on December 7.

Footage shows the racoon falling from the ledge of the building and on to a green piece of tarpaulin, before running off.

A group had a tarp waiting below on the street to catch it

A rescuer scaled a column on the building on 100 Hudson Street in Tribeca, New York, and tried to help the animal down. A group had a tarp waiting below on the street to catch it

Rescuers gathered to try and help the creature who is stuck on the building’s 20-foot-high shelf.

One rescuer climbed up and wedged themselves between two columns, trying to get the animal into a bin.

A group of people also tried to help the raccoon from the ground, and were gathered below with an elevated sheet to catch it if it fell.

The animal scurried under a food truck and nearby vehicle

The raccoon fell from the ledge and although it seemed to hit the pavement it was unharmed

The animal fell from the ledge and although it seemed to hit the pavement despite the tarp it was unharmed and scurried under a food truck and nearby vehicle

The animal fell from the ledge and although there was a tarp there to soften its landing, he hits the pavement.

A crowd had gathered to watch the rescue and someone screams as the animal tumbles through the air.

Seemingly unharmed, the raccoon runs to hide under a food truck before scurrying underneath a nearby vehicle.

A witness said the raccoon seemed unhurt in the fall, adding that it was claimed the animal hid ‘in someone’s car engine’.

It’s still unclear where the animal went after the fall and what condition it was in.
