Hundreds of New Yorkers lined up outside Tesla’s Manhattan showroom to get a rare glimpse of a Cybertruck prototype ahead of the company’s CEO Saturday Night Live appearance.
The futuristic Cybertruck then hit the streets of NYC to the amazement of many bystanders.
The prototype has only been spotted on a few rare occasions since it made its debut in November 2019, most recently at Tesla’s Giga Texas construction site right outside of Austin, Texas.
The Cybertruck was brought to New York City in time for Musk’s SNL hosting gig.
Musk has been in the Big Apple since Monday and apparently coordinated an appearance for the Cybertruck to also to visit New York City, Teslarati.com reported.
Musk announced on Friday the vehicle would be on display in a Meatpacking District showroom before it took to the streets and was captured being driven around in Times Square.

Musk unveiled the Cybertruck – which looks like an armored vehicle with angular sides – in November 2019.
The billionaire and Tesla design chief Franz von Holshausen took the stage at a high-profile launch event to prove the glass was ‘shatterproof’ by throwing a metal ball at close range.
But all did not go according to plan when the glass ended up smashing.
Musk was heard muttering ‘oh my f***ing God’ when his showpiece test failed.
Musk then took to Twitter to explain why the windows of his Cybertruck embarrassingly broke during a failed strength test at its launch event.
Musk explained in a tweet that the base of the glass window had already been weakened during a previous demo.

The all-electric truck’s body is based on a 1976 Lotus Esprit sports car Musk owned in 2013 and the rest of the design pulls inspiration from vehicles in ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Mad Max,’ ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Alien.’
‘You want to have these things that inspire people and feels different,’ Musk said about the truck. ‘Everything else is the same, like variations on the same theme.’
Musk has boasted the vehicle has more than 250,000 pre-orders and noted in an earnings call ‘we’ve never seen this level of demand’.
The large truck stretches 19 feet and spans six feet across and when asked on Twitter if Tesla would design a smaller version, Musk responded that a smaller version is ‘highly likely down the road.’
The Cybertruck is still slated to begin production later this year at Giga Texas.
Musk says that if Tesla ‘gets lucky,’ a few deliveries will happen before the end of 2021, but that he expects volume production to take place in 2022, Teslarati.com reported.
