A nurse was told his grandfather died from coronavirus just moments after finishing his shift in an intensive care unit.

Adam, aged 24, from Manchester, took a picture of himself during his night shift showing him covered in sweat and with sores from his mask.

The medic, who describes himself as a ‘make-shift ICU nurse’, was then told that his own Grandad had died from coronavirus.

He shared his photo online and urged Britons to stay inside amid the pandemic. 

Just weeks ago the nurse wrote online: ‘My self isolation finishes tonight and on monday I’ll start retraining in to critical care. 

‘And it’s really starting to hit me hard, to the extent I cant sleep, that in the weeks to come I’ll be one of the last people someones loved one will see, and the last voice theyll hear’.

It comes as hospital workers working on the frontline have died from the virus.     

Nurse and mother-of-three Areema Nasreen, aged 36, died from coronavirus on Friday at Walsall Manor Hospital in the West Midlands where she worked.

Nurse Aimee O’Rourke, 39, also died from coronavirus at the QEQM Hospital where she worked in Margate, Kent.

Coronavirus cases in Britain have risen to more than 50,000 to 51,608 as of 5pm on April 5th, with the number of deaths rising to 5,373.
