Jack Vidgen sets the record straight on rumours he’s trans after dressing up in drag for a night out and being flooded with ‘hundreds’ of messages

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Jack Vidgen has confirmed he is not trans, after rumours swirled he was living as a woman.

The openly gay singer, 24, set the record straight on his gender identity in an Instagram post on Saturday, clarifying he is male and goes by he/him pronouns.

He decided to speak out after dressing up in drag for a night out with I’m a Celebrity co-star Abbie Chatfield in Sydney.

Several fans questioned whether Jack, who rose to fame as a teenager on Australia’s Got Talent in 2011, was trans because of his ultra-feminine look.

He had gone out partying in a gold mini skirt and matching bustier, which he teamed with a choker necklace, wristbands and a long blonde wig.

After returning home from his night out and taking off his clothes and makeup, Jack revealed he’d been inundated with ‘hundreds’ of questions about his gender.

He wrote on Instagram Stories: ‘Anddd I’m a boy again. Thank you for your beautiful messages and comments. Tonight was so fun.

‘I’ve had like hundreds of messages asking if I’m trans. I’m not – I was just dressing up in drag with friends for fun for a night out.

‘Being trans is a beautiful thing though and I love that people are asking questions. My pronounces are he/him. Lots of love b***h x.’

Jack revealed on I’m a Celebrity earlier this year that he realised he was gay when he watched his first Mardi Gras parade in Sydney when he was 14.

‘My first Mardi Gras experience – I used to live on the corner of Oxford Street and Hyde Park and our balcony would look over the whole of Oxford Street,’ he said.

‘So kind of 14, 15 years old, I was watching the parade with mum just in my mind going, “Am I gay?” This was way before I came out.’

Jack had a girlfriend until he was 19 – before he came out – and said everyone in his life was supportive when he told them about his sexuality.

‘I had a really beautiful experience coming out, everyone in my life was so chill about it,’ he revealed.

‘It wasn’t a big deal, it was so chill. So many people have not a good experience and that’s super sad to me. But I’ve had a really blessed time with coming out.’

Jack won the fifth season of Australia’s Got Talent in 2011 when he was 14 years old.

He released two albums, Yes I Am and Inspire, with Sony Music Australia before parting ways with the label and quitting the music industry for several years.

Jack made a spectacular comeback on The Voice in 2019 and is now recording new music and performing shows again.
