Those looking for a getaway in the new year are in luck as Jetstar launches a huge Boxing Day sale with flights across Australia starting from as little as $29 – but Sydneysiders will be taking a massive risk by purchasing them.

The annual sale, which ends on Sunday, includes flights from Melbourne to Hobart starting at just $45 and fares from the Gold Coast to Perth from just $119.

However, it’s bad news for Sydney residents who have been shut off from every state due to a recent outbreak of coronavirus cases in the city’s Northern Beaches.

Residents in Australia’s largest capital city have been completely banned from some states while others will allow them to enter as long as they undergo two weeks of quarantine.

Those planning a trip to Melbourne – who don’t live in Sydney – can take advantage of flights from Adelaide to the cultural capital for as low as $29.

Airfares are also on sale from Melbourne to Launceston in Tasmania, with flights on offer for just $41.

Victorians looking to head to Hobart can also snag a deal for $45, while Perth residents wanting to escape to Cairns can secure a flight for just $119.

Services from Hobart to Brisbane cost as little as $109 and fares from Brisbane to the Whitsundays start from $49. 

Flights are also available from the Gold Coast to Perth for just $119, and from Darwin to Brisbane for $85.

Those in regional New South Wales are still able to travel to all states except Western Australia and Queensland, which have reinstated their hard border closures.

Regional NSW residents can travel to Victoria if they have a permit, and will be able to enter the Northern Territory and South Australia without having to isolate.

These residents can also visit the ACT and Tasmania.

But individuals from the Greater Sydney and Central Coast areas are required to undergo two weeks of quarantine upon arrival in Victoria, South Australia, the NT, Canberra and Tasmania.

It comes as Sydney’s recent outbreak jumped to 127 cases on Boxing Day with 116 infections linked to the Avalon cluster.

It was also announced that a child was included in the new cases recorded on Saturday. 

The child became infected at the Paddington Alimentari café in Sydney’s inner-eastern suburbs with a total of four cases now linked to the popular eatery.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant revealed a child was infected at the venue and urged people who visited Paddington Alimentari to get tested during Friday’s press conference.
