June Shannon agrees to rehab then backs out last-minute on new episode of Mama June: From Hot To Not

‘Mama’ June Shannon agreed to go to rehab, then backed out on the last second on Friday’s episode of Mama June: From Hot To Not, Family Crisis.

The 40-year-old said she would leave her boyfriend Geno Doak back home in Georgia and get treated for her addictions in Los Angeles.

However when show staff arrived at her house to take her to the airport she refused to come to the door, even as a producer repeatedly called and threw rocks.

The season has chronicled June’s family attempting to get a hold of her after she and Geno vanished in the wake of their arrest on drug charges. 

At the end of last week’s episode Geno drove a car into June’s garage door in Georgia last June, with TMZ alleging he was ‘wasted.’

A video went viral of June emerging from the house in a negligee and trying to help Geno up as he lay on his back on the driveway, struggling to even stand.

June’s daughters Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo,’ then 13, and Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’, then 19, found out about the incident while they were in Los Angeles.

They were joined on their trip by Pumpkin’s husband Josh Efird and their toddler Ella, as well as by Alana’s father Sugar Bear with his current wife Jennifer Lamb.

Alana had been thoroughly enjoying her trip, walking the runway at fashion shows and doing stand-up, until the incident put a pall on proceedings.

The family wrapped up their trip seemingly on schedule and flew back to Georgia, stopping off to visit June’s sister Joanne ‘Doe Doe.’

Doe Doe was in Alabama with her daughter Amber and June’s pal ‘Big Mike’ looking for the runaways when they learned of the incident and returned to Georgia.

They arrived at the car and saw the dents in the garage, and Doe Doe remarked on the sight of children playing in the street where Geno drove.

Doe Doe expressed her hope that her sister would be safe when she was found, adding that ‘I really hope we don’t find her dead.’

‘I’ve seen Mama in some pretty bad places but she’s worse than I’ve ever seen her,’ shared Pumpkin in a confessional after the video went viral.

As she and her husband discussed the incident she told Josh she felt June was unaware of the impact of her actions on her family.

Josh, Pumpkin, Sugar Bear, Jennifer conferred with June’s manager Gina Rodriguez, whose home they were staying in for their Los Angeles trip.

Pumpkin said: ‘Jennifer, I know we have our differences and stuff but we really gotta come together for Alana’s support,’ and Jennifer agreed.

In a confessional Jennifer was scathing, saying: ‘Geno’s digusting – I guess that’s what makes him the right man for June.’

During the family meeting at Gina’s house Pumpkin apprised Alana of the crash because ‘we want you to hear it from us instead of social media.’

Alana sighed: ‘Great,’ upon learning that all of this information was online, worrying that she was going to get bullied at school.

Upon her return to Georgia she was finally slated to begin attending public school again after years of homeschooling by her mother to shield her from bullies.

However, because of issues with determining how many credits she had earned homeschooling, she was not yet sure if she would enter eighth or ninth grade.

Doe Doe welcomed the family home with a potluck at her house ’cause I know they missed Georgia food’ while out in Los Angeles.

She gifted Alana with ‘clothes to make her feel beautiful’ as she began school – including a pair of brightly colored pumps the family made fun of.

While attending the potluck Pumpkin got a call from Adam, an executive producer on the program, and vanished into the bedroom to take it.

Adam told a relieved Pumpkin that June had agreed to attend rehab in Los Angeles, a stark contrast from her previous try.

The last time June had gone to rehab Geno signed her out of the facility within a day and they were arrested soon thereafter.

To avoid this problem the show arranged for cars to shuttle her from her Georgia home to the airport, then straight from LAX to rehab.

Los Angeles was selected to ensure that Geno would be out of easy driving distance from the facility and unable to spring June early.

Adam shared he was ‘cautiously optimistic ’cause we got burned last time’ but shared ‘I haven’t heard her this positive and – like she reached out to me which is huge because up until now we’ve been chasing her.’

When the call was over Pumpkin delightedly rushed back into the living room to tell her family the ‘good news’ about her mother. 

Doe Doe mentioned that ‘last time we pushed it on her’ so it was possible that she was not ready then but is now. 

‘I mean it’d be great if mama came home home like healthy and everything’s just fine,’ said Alana in a confessional.

She was hoping to be able to ‘come home from school and tell her about my day’ just as ‘a normal teenager’ would.

While Pumpkin and Alana left June a thrilled voicemail about her decision, Josh and Big Mike took a $20 bet on whether she would stick to it.

‘Why you gotta be so negative?’ Pumpkin asked her husband and Josh tried to explain gently that ‘I was here last time’ June agreed to treatment.

Big Mike concurred that although everyone was ‘rooting’ for June to attend rehab ‘I ain’t jumping up and f***ing down till I see her there.’

Pumpkin admitted in a confessional that she was ‘skeptical’ herself but maintaining a cheery outlook for her little sister’s benefit.

Doe Doe also felt that Pumpkin and Alana needed ‘motherly advice’ from June as ‘I’m here but I’m not your mom.’

Pumpkin theorized that June felt everyone was rumbling along fine without her, whereas the reality was she was still necessary to her family.

After the rehab announcement the family was treated to an extra bit of good news when Pumpkin got a call that Alana could enter ninth, not eighth grade.

In fact she was scheduled to begin high school on the same Monday morning that June was meant to fly out to Los Angeles for treatment.

‘Monday’s a really big day because I’m starting high school and Mama’s going to rehab! Can this day get any better?’ Alana exclaimed in a confessional.

Meanwhile, Sugar Bear took Jennifer to a romantic lunch she found substandard, where she repeatedly mentioned landing the cover of Star magazine.

She also raised the subject of Pumpkin’s tender age and wondered if Alana had ‘ever had a full fledged adult in her life.’

Jennifer plotted to use her showbiz money to potentially ‘get us a good lawyer’ so that her husband could obtain custody of his daughter.

Sugar Bear was concerned for Alana but hesitant about forcing himself into her life and causing her to ‘resent’ him.

When the morning came for Alana to start ninth grade and June to go to rehab the teen felt it was ‘almost like me and Mama are doing this together.’

She made a video diary for her mother saying she was ‘really excited for you today’ and sharing that she was also about to begin high school.

Alana said she was ‘really excited, little nervous but mostly excited’ for school, ‘so I hope you have a good day – I’m really proud of you.’

As Alana got ready and Josh dropped her off, the show producers arrived at June’s home two hours before her flight was to take off.

A producer called Camille knocked on the door, called June and flung pebbles at the building but nothing could make June come out.

Finally an hour and a half after their arrival the team realized they would never make the flight on time and gave up the attempt.

Pumpkin was in the kitchen making a tater tot casserole and fretting about Alana’s school day when she got the bad news.

A producer called Morion entered and said: ‘I just got off the phone and your mom didn’t go,’ to which Pumpkin looked aghast and Josh buried his face in his hands.

In a confessional Pumpkin shared she was ‘more mad at myself’ as ‘I always set myself up’ imagining ‘this time is different’ only for the situation not to improve.

Pumpkin then left June a furious voicemail saying she was ‘sick and tired of you getting my hopes up and getting Alana’s hopes up.’

The mother of one vowed that ‘until you can get your s*** together you won’t be seeing Alana you won’t be seeing Ella, you won’t be seeing me or Josh.’

Pumpkin raged that ‘you need to get yourself better because I promise you there’s more to life than chasing drugs and a f***ing man.’

She felt that maybe they should wait at least a day before telling Alana, so as not to add more to the 13-year-old’s plate on her big day.

However her husband encouraged frankness with his niece, arguing that ‘there’s no sense in hiding anything from Alana.’

Josh said that in June’s absence ‘y’all are mine so it is my job to protect you all,’ while Pumpkin worried about ‘how she’s gonna take it and that’s what scares me.’

On learning the news from Pumpkin, Doe Doe exclaimed that June ‘asked for this!’ and laid the blame for her about-face squarely on Geno.

She said that ‘rehab could’ve really helped June with these drug charges but let’s get real, she didn’t go to rehab because Geno didn’t wanna lose his meal ticket.’

Doe doe added: ‘Alana was so looking forward to being able to go home at some point and she can’t go home now. This is gonna devastate her.’

Meanwhile Alana shared in a confessional that her school day was ‘actually really good’ in spite of her worries about bullying.

‘I had a lot of fun. I liked all my classes. Like I think this is gonna be a really good year,’ said Alana hopefully.

However when she got home and began discussing her day with Pumpkin and Josh, she quickly asked for an ‘update’ about June.

Josh nudged Pumpkin to break the news, before eventually breaking and doing it himself, saying June ‘didn’t even make it out of the threshold of her f***ing house.’

Alana was visibly crushed and vanished into her room, prompting Pumpkin to politely ask the crew to leave for the day so the family could have privacy.

The crew agreed, but a half an hour later, as they packed up, they caught Pumpkin shouting at Alana in the living room.

Alana as it turns out had gone live on Instagram and jokingly pretended to snort cocaine, resulting in a video that went viral.

Pumpkin was incensed that Alana would do such a thing and was having none of her little sister’s protests that ‘It was just a joke!’

Pointing out that her celebrity would guarantee news coverage of the incident, an enraged Pumpkin sent Alana off to her room.

She confided in the crew that she was frightened Jennifer would use the video to wrench custody of Alana away from her.

Saying that ‘anybody can take her from us at this point, it doesn’t even have to be Sugar Bear and Jennifer,’ she added that she was scared she would lose Ella too.
